That's what looking out the window is for.

God. Why do you bother?

I understand that. But why do people have weather widgets at all?

I mean it'd be clever to have that, and i do look out of my window.

What about people stuff in a server room with no windows? ohh!! i found a place it could be used.

BTW...to the guy who said that deskscapes uses too much CPU resources. How much does it require?? Is it really that much that it would prevent people from installing it on a system with 2gb of memory?

I remember back when I had XP with 512gb ram, I installed windows blinds, and it slowed my computer down to @%^.

512GB of ram? Never seen anyone with that amount of memory. I am guessing you meant MB of memory.

We'd have to see the animated content / trigger based wallpapers in action, because the current dreams out on dream.wincustomize.com are all basically HUGE MPEG files - and some of them grind the HD like mad.

That's lame as hell. You can use VLC client to play any video and use it as a wallpaper. Such a copout that MS simply decided to use video files.

Uh no.

Can anyone see the advantage of using *.mpg, as opposed to *.generalmicrosoftproprietaryformat?

If you hate video files, you can always use GIFs.

Dynamic content/triggers will be coming along shortly. The reason people are using large .mpegs is because that will get your the best performance.

You're always going to have some % of the user base unhappy with regards to video formats and such.

.WMVs are small. But use more CPU.

.MPEGS are large, but use a lot less CPU.

Pick your poison.

Dynamic videos use hardly any CPU and are tiny but can't be quite as fancy as pre-rendered video (i.e. you're not going to get a real time hair blowing wallpaper <g>).

I know you can't answer this but my wife is screaming for a really well designed dynamic aquarium.

You guys should really get Sachs aboard to design one ;)
