desync
How's it going, love the forums, been a fan for many years. I've just finished configuring/installing Windows Vista RTM and I've patched my uxtheme.dll. It won't recognize the .msstyles at all, and even some of the old windows xp .theme files, will detect but give a critical error when trying to load them. Is there no current working Visual Styles for Vista, or am I blind? Am i doing something wrong? BTW, i'm using litestep as my shell so i just wanted a nice visual style for my window borders. desync
Just did some reading, seems there's WindowBlinds Beta 5.5, is there any other program that can import old .msstyles, or apply them without WindowBlinds? Fact is, I don't want to purchase it without tryign first and it seems the beta is only available to those who've subscribed. Tech_Dude_5000
From what I understand Vista has a whole new theme engine that uses diferent theme files that are not found in XP. Island Dog
If you want to use .msstyles made for XP, then the best solution is going to be Windowblinds 5.5 beta. Here is some more information about Windowblinds for Vista. http://www.wincustomize.com/Articles.aspx?...&AID=136284 Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/517561-trying-to-get-old-xp-msstyles-to-work-with-vista/#findComment-588099552 Share on other sites
desync
If you want to use .msstyles made for XP, then the best solution is going to be Windowblinds 5.5 beta. Here is some more information about Windowblinds for Vista. http://www.wincustomize.com/Articles.aspx?...&AID=136284 Well if you read my post, I proclaimed that I wanted to try it before buying it and it seems their only available Vista Blinds right now is through purchased subscription, I'm not a cheap ass but what happened to trial version? Thanks for your post, does anyone else have any suggestions? I have a great Visual Style i was using for XP called BlackComb Pro, in which i'd love to get back. Island Dog
When Windowblinds 5.5 comes out of beta, then you should be able to download a shareware version. Right now I know of no other way to use XP styles on Vista. ViperSnake
doesnt the new styles use xml now anyways? No, they are still in .msstyles files, but the format inside is quite different! You have to patch three files, as the README states. http://anti-tgtsoft.com/repository/uxtheme...00.16386_EN.rar Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/517561-trying-to-get-old-xp-msstyles-to-work-with-vista/#findComment-588162624 Share on other sites
