I have my X-Fi disk, but I'm a all-drivers-MUST-be-up-to-date freak. I'm trying to find a driver for my X-Fi XtremeMusic (I think it's a XtremeMusic, that's what I ordered from Dell). Here are my specs: Dell XPS 420 Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.40 Ghz 2GB of RAM (I'm considering going for 4GB, but I need Vista 64-bit for that, waiting for Dell to acknowledge that a 64-bit system can be shipped with a 64-bit OS if the user wants to) 640GB RAID 0 Array nVidia GeForce 8600 GTS Creative X-Fi XtremeMusic I downloaded several Web releases of the driver, only to find that my soundcard isn't supported by any of the packages I could find. So I unpacked the most probable one (v2.15.0004 or something). I checked my device manager: the full "product code" of my card is VEN_1102&DEV_0005&SUBSYS_60021102. What can I do? I tried to force the installation of the driver: my card stopped working. I tried to find on the Dell support website drivers for it: there's only a package for the "XtremeGamer" version, which doesn't work either. Thanks in advance, and happy new year! I just saw they replaced the XtremeMusic with a XtremeGamer. But that doesn't change anything, since the package supports those cards: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeMusic Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Platinum Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatal1ty? blued Posted January 6, 2008 Share Posted January 6, 2008 All X-fi with the exception of Xtreme Audio use the same drivers. I also have the Xtreme Music and have never had a problem installing drivers, the latest of which is v2.15.0004. You could try to uninstall the device (in Device Manager) and reboot, of course it will load up the default Creative drivers that come with Vista, but it may also clear up whatever problem was preventing the new drivers from installing. Would you care to elaborate why the OEM one is crappy and the retail one is much better in terms of hardware? Little knowledge is worse than no knowledge. The only thing that is different is the software. The only difference is the Dell drivers dont support DTS decoding, you can load Cyberlink or any third party app with a DTS option to get that functionality. All drivers are out there search by service tag or post your service tag here and I can help you find them. Creative have a nasty habit of creating "special" hardware IDs for OEM customers (like DELL). Also, the "ctaud2k.sys" (I think) file is hard-coded to filter hardware IDs. Do yourself a favor and get a XtremeGamer card. Get it OEM (bulk), if possible, for extra value. Err the Dell drivers DO support DTS/Dolby decoding since you use their drivers to re-enable it under vista... actually after Creative driver version 2.10.xxxx (see version at top of INF), DTS/Dolby support was removed from XP and Vista drivers for both OEM and retail customers. Do you think I can ask for any kind of refund to Dell because they sold me a card they won't support themselves?
