Frogboy Administrators Posted June 23, 2008 Administrators Share Posted June 23, 2008 I've seen this topic come up before about what is the best radar detector. Of course, the answer always depends on what your needs are. I've put together a head to head comparison of the best performing radar detector versus the most stealthy radar detector so you can see how they perform. You can read it here: http://frogboy.impulsedriven.net/article/3...vs_Valentine_V1

PricklyPoo
Lol I just have the cheapest one you can buy at autozone. It always works, detects every police scanning that I have ever gone by. I've also noticed I don't really need it much anymore since I now know where pretty much every officer sits and hides.

Frogboy Administrators Posted June 24, 2008 Author Administrators Share Posted June 24, 2008 Yea, I highly support radar detectors. I drive safely. Hundreds of thousands of miles driven over the years, never one accident. But I recent arbitrary speed limits. I like to drive at a speed I feel safe and comfortable driving and that's where radar detectors come into play. The only tickets I've gotten in my adult life were from speed traps (i.e. where the speed limit is lower than conditions warrant and the trooper is hiding). So at that point, it becomes a question of whether one wants to have a high performance radar detector that's in the car and quite visible or a lower performing one that one wouldn't even know it's there and is merely a tiny readout in the dashboard. kars85
The Escort 9500i takes the cake IMO. GPS functionality lets you lock in known speed traps and heightens sensitivity within a certain radius of the GPS coordinates you locked in the system. It works so silently I hardly realize it's there until a cop actually is shooting. I'm used to older detectors going off at every automatic door... V1's need a major revamp to make them a competitor with the 9500i. With the 9500i, I know the alert is unlikely a false+ and to slow down. The V1 just points in the direction I should look, do you really think you need that?
ozgeek
It's illegal to even own one here. They have radar detector detectors (detectors that detect radar detectors).
Neo003
I have 9500i after getting 2 tickets in a day (2nd one was double since he saw the first ticket and asked to see it) cost me around $800.00+ dollars not to mention insurance. After I bought 9500i it has saved me over $$$$ yes over $$$$. I would recommend valentine v1 but it cost 500 I think too expensive while 9500i does the same for 100 less. But if you got the money then why not.
TruckWEB
It's illegal to even own one here. They have radar detector detectors (detectors that detect radar detectors). Same here in Canada. If the cops gets you with one, you will get a massive fine and they will remove it from your car, even if it means breaking something. In Canada, Radar Detectors are legal to use in province of AB, BC, SK and are illegal in NB, MB, ON, QC, NS, NL, PE, NT, YT, NU. So, almost illegal all over Canada.
