blerk
I thought this was a reasonably interesting topic. From the New York Times: Quote ?It?s the gentlemen?s club your wife would approve of.? NYU Langone and other medical institutions have long had services devoted to women, an outgrowth of the belief that the male-dominated medical establishment had not paid enough attention to their particular needs. Now men are beginning to get equal treatment as hospitals try to take advantage of an enormous untapped market: men who, studies show, avoid doctors for virtually anything short of a bullet wound. Mr. Gibs
Quote Now men are beginning to get equal treatment as hospitals try to take advantage of an enormous untapped market: men who, studies show, avoid doctors for virtually anything short of a bullet wound.Oh good now we can try and convince more people into getting completely useless tests and doctor visits done all in the name of money. I wish there was like a happy medium in the US, you either get doctors who order every test known to man kind everytime you visit them...or you get doctors who refuse to order any test even if it's clear something is wrong. Hell my wife's old PCP seems to think it's appropriate to order urine and blood tests every single time she visits her and 99.999% of the time they come back clean. You could go to her with a cold and she'll order a blood test... It was pretty much clear she only cared about the money, because you'd end up waiting for an hour to see her, and then she'd spend 10mins. The final straw was when my wife when to see her for two problems, she took a look at one and was like "sorry I don't have time to look at the other make another appointment with the receptionist" Yeah sure, I'll gladly pay you another $400 (or well insurance) for a 10 minute visit in which you can't be ######ed to do your job correctly. Well that's what you get when you have a healthcare system that is dominated by money and malpractice lawsuits. A friend of mine is studying to be a doctor and he says the amount of doctors you see who go by the logic "I'll order 1000 unnecessary CT scans just to avoid missing 1 and getting a lawsuit because of it" is really sad. And then you have the doctors who are afraid of getting sued for unnecessary tests that they'll refuse to do anything unless you come in to their office with half your body missing.
