VGVL
I've been thinking about changing my current cell phone ever since I got a damn plastic Nokia. (My parents switched my beautiful non-plastic Motorola V60 for this piece of crap without asking me). Something I've always found essential in electronics and anything I get is that it must be made out of aluminum. (That's why I got my Aluminum PowerBook, iPod mini, Apple Cinema Display, B&O Earphones, etc.) I was looking at the Nokia 8890, but getting it would be too much trouble. I would have to buy an unlocked 8890 online, get some other GSM phone and switch out the SIM card. That phone did everything I wanted, was elegant and wasn't made out of plastic. Too bad getting it would be a lot of trouble. So right now I'm looking at the Motorola Razr V3. I've always liked Motorola phones, and this one caught my eye. The entire phone is made out of aluminum! :woot: There are only a couple of things that bother me about this phone but that I'd be willing to live with. 1) The color screen. I don't like color screens on cell phones, but I can live with one. 2) Built-in Camera. I have my Canon SD10 for a reason. 3) Keypad backlight. The design of the keypad is amazing, but the blue backlight looks tacky. I wish I could change it to white, like my PowerBook's backlit keyboard. This phone looks like the best one so far, so I want to know your thoughts. Does anyone here have this phone? What do you think of it? Are there any other phones I should consider? For those who don't know what I'm talking about, here's a link. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/255760-motorola-razr-v3/ Share on other sites

VGVL
You think you're parents are gonna spend $499 on a cell phone?jafo 585081481 Apparently. My mom wants to get it for me, I just can't decide yet if I really want it. It's likely that I will go for it. Aids
seriously. obscenely expensive, i really like the look of the phone. and really would like to have one, but 500$? c'mon. i have a nice pretty phone anyway, i don't need this razr. (yeah i do...) but still, why don't you care for those features? the camera is definetly a plus, my phone's a camera phone and i have a nice digital camera anyway, but do you really carry that around as much as you do your phone? and color screens are so much prettier and easier to live with then the genericly dumb green/black backrounds. oh well. only my opinion i guess. D0401
the razr is all looks. you have way more choices as far as feature rich phones for less money. i guess if you really wanted to you could attempt to change the leds behind the keys to white Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/255760-motorola-razr-v3/#findComment-585081548 Share on other sites

As long as it can make calls, is made out of aluminum and looks awesome. If I get it I'll probably take the phone to someone with enough experience in electronics to figure out a way to change the LED's to white. Tufty the Penguin: I carry my camera around more than my cell phone. The Aluminum is not evident, if there is any. The keypad also looks very generic:sleep:p: Otherwise it's decent, I guess. But I still wouldn't want one. Good suggestion though, keep them coming. It's not like I'm locked to the Razr V3. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/255760-motorola-razr-v3/#findComment-585081584 Share on other sites

xSammyx
just today i got the v3 razor for 799? and so far it seems really worth it. its charging now, and after i play with it a bit i will post pix (on monday probably). it feels really nice to hold in the hand and the bottons feel great. personally the flipping is a bit hard and stiff, and i would rather have one that is faster and lighter, but my friends all prefer how its a bit heavier to close and not so fast, so i guess its personal taste. other than that, you will be amazed at how thin it is when opened. Kerm
The V3 is an awesome phone, i've had mine for a couple of weeks now. It's not all made of Aluminium though, only the keypad, and it's not aluminium its an alloy, but hey. ;) The camera isn't great, but it's cool to have one if the moment asks, you don't have to use it. The Blue lights in the keypad do not look tacky beleive me! They looks absolutely amazing, especially at night, honestly no tackyness. Looks quality. Anymore questions just ask me. I would reccomend it. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/255760-motorola-razr-v3/#findComment-585082781 Share on other sites

Kerm
Errm, well i usually plug it in at night, and i've not noticed it drop to one bar left yet. I didn't charge it for a couple of days and it was still with me. If you charge it at night for an hour or whatever it's fine. hobsgrg
I have one of these babies and I love it. Sure it doesn't have all the features that you get with some smartphones, but it has all the neccessary stuff, and this is a mobile phone that is designed to be just that, a mobile phone. If you want PDA type stuff look elsewhere, if you want a good looking phone, that doesn't try to be something it's not but still have all the main features you need then I highly recommend this. Only down points, you can't transfer java games onto it out of the box, but a quick search will find you the tools you need to be able to do that just annoying that they didn't let you do it out of the box. Also only 5.5mb of internal memory, but as it's not a smartphone all your going to be storing is a few ring tones, a few java games and some pics so it's not really a problem as your not going to have anything very big on it. Bottom third is also plastic which is annoying, especially when the case it comes in is metal, couldn't they of used some of that on the phone instead??? The phone is very robust, I dropped it in the middle of a badly worn road, it bounced around as I looked in horror, it got a few minor scratches but that was it. hobsgrg
It depends how much you use it, if you use it a lot browsing wap pages and playing java games, texting then the battery only lasts about 5-6 hours of that sort of heavy use but then I do have my screen set to be very bright, should last longer if u turned it down a bit. It has a standby time of quite a few days, but the screen does wear down the battery a fair bit. One annoying thing is that when it gets down to one bar it's not very long b4 you get the low battery warning, it doesn't give you much advance warning. Whats battery life like? Its so damn nice... 585082838 Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/255760-motorola-razr-v3/#findComment-585082880 Share on other sites

hobsgrg
the phone charges very quickly, usually only takes about couple of hours to fully charge, so you shouldn't have too much longer to wait :) officially the battery life is 200 hours standby mode and up to 3 hours talk time. agh i cant wait for mine to fully charge yet, its been in for a bit more than an hour. how long did your first charges take? 585082944 Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/255760-motorola-razr-v3/#findComment-585083006 Share on other sites
