The HTC 8125 for Cingular!

Recommended Posts

This is going to be one sweet phone. I have been following the discussion about it at a few other forums and I decided to bring the info here to see what the Neowin members thought.

I thought this was going to be the same size as the average PPC phone an was not interested but after seeings it's CDMA brother from Sprint in action (I believe the PPC 6700) it is no longer then the SMT5600, just a little bit wider and a tad thicker.

Price:

Rumored to be $449.00 without Contract and as low as $350.00 with Contract after the $50.00 rebate with a Data Plan.

Release Date:

Rumored to be sometime between November 13th - November 19th (I think it is going to be the 18th).

I have given up on the release date. It changed about every two weeks to something new. I would plan on seeing this device sometime in January.

OH man, now that ericsson w800i is starting to look not very good as my first choice. Thanks to you Frank i'm all confused now  ...

anyways thanks for the heads up it does look pretty good, and the features are great too, but cingular i wouldnt touch their service unless it was the only service available.

that is one schweet phone! A lot better then the one that I am supposedly being sent by a Neowin Vetern. If I don't get the phone I'm supposed to get ,I'll have to save pennies and go to the US and get one of these. Hell, perhaps I should just MOVE to the US ... seems you have way cooler phones anyway! :p and some better contracts too!!!

It's a shame cingular doesn't offer an unlimited text messaging plan since this phone would definitely encourage the use of such services.

so, the size of this thing is still a mystery to me. For reference sake, has anyone seen this side by side with a treo650?

I haven't worked with the Treo at all but I think they are about the same size.

If you ever worked with the Audiovox SMT5600 the HTC 8125 (and 8100 for the non camera version) isn't taller then the SMT5600. it is just a tad bit wider, and a tad bit thicker.

I wasn't interested in this device when I first saw the pictures and specs because I thought it would be the same size as a regular PDA> I changed my mind when I saw the PPC-6700 (it's CDMA brother) in person. I couldn't believe how small it was.

I was considering getting a couple 650s for the wife and myself. Looks like I will wait and check these out. Thanks.

I've just bought the iMate K-JAM (HTC Wizard) which is pretty much the same as this except for looks...

It is one awesome device, the keyboard is extrememly usable with two thumbs and i can type on it pretty fast, the screen is fantastic (much brighter than the screen on my imate JAM which i had before this), and having wifi aswell is great, it is a bit thicker than the JAM, but i can still fit it in my pocket fine, and it is worth compromising size for the wifi, extra ram and slide out keyboard. :D

Also, i find Windows moble 5 alot nicer the 2003, it just looks much nicer and feels nicer to me.

WOW. you guys are really turning my world upside down. I was pretty settled on the Treos, I had my mind made up. This far too tempting. Just the prospect of not having that stubby antenna is enough for me. Everything else is just pushing me over the edge.

still, I would love to see some side by side shots the 8125 with 650. obsessing overing it a little.

Here is a pic of the 8125, 2125 (the product that will be released around the same time to replace the SMT5600) a RAZR and a Nokia Communicator. Maybe this will show you a little better example on sizes.

GREAT! I'm sick of the RAZR, I know alot of people like it but I think it's just some fad that looks ugly (and now is jumbled with iTunes). This, however, might get me away from Nokia 6800. Yes, I like the QWERTY pad phones, and this seems like a great upgrade.

Hopefully they will start popping up on eBay in unlocked status. There's no camera on it, correct?

that's great. thank you very much. I'd kind of like to jump in to that pile and roll around a bit.

still no word on official release date though?

No but it seems like some people think it is the 16th for B2B and the 22nd for retail. I think they are trying to roll this out before Black Friday but truthfully I don't think it will be out till the beginning of December.

Sweet!

i'm also getting this device this month as Qtek 9100

it's already out in holland but i'm waiting for the Dutch Windows Mobile 5 version.

a few questions:

You are a JAM user, does the K-JAM feel bigger in your hands or does it feel the same as the JAM?

where's your JAM now?

Is it true that it only has a 200Mhz processor?  Most modern PPCs come with 400mhz at the very least, don't they?

I do believe the processor is a little slow but what I have seen it may be a "Dual Core" processor. I am not sure how this would affect performance but it is just what I have heard around the boards. I could be way off base with this one though.

    • If you are willing to go to approx $200, then as mentioned in your other thread I think a refurbished Pixel 8 will be a great deal that will last you for years. I recently recommended that to someone at work, he was on a strict £200 budget, which got him an excellent conditioned refurbished Pixel 8 here. He's since told me its the best phone he's ever had and feels its a massive upgrade over his old Samsung A series device. I don't know the sites which deal in refurbished devices in the US, however I’m sure you will have some options like we do here. Failing that Ebay is also quite good in my experience. If you wanted something a bit cheaper, then you could maybe go for an older Pixel 7, these will still get security updates until the end of 2027. Even after that you have good third party OS support from LineageOS. It doesn't have to be a Pixel though, you can buy many older devices for a good deal that would be better than a new $100 phone and flash LineageOS to them: https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/
    • I don't use one drive, but then I don't use any cloud storage, not even Icloud on my mac. If I did use cloud storage, then I would not use One drive, not because there is anything wrong with it, but because I can use Icloud. The only reason I see to use one drive is if your job requires you to have access to it
    • Not built in, which is not a bad thing. There are ways of adding cloud storage to it, Dropbox is the most well know that also have a client for Linux, but there are others.
    • My advice, dont use teams, use the web version if possible. https://teams.microsoft.com/v2/
