risoftwi
Well I have done a lot of searching and I have found that this works. Open regedit. And go down to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Spftware\Microsoft\DWM Set keys as follows: Animation = 1 Blur = 1 Composition = 1 EnableMachineCheck = 0 ForceSoftwareD3D = 1 or 0 (1 Forces Direct3D software rendering, may increase CPU usage) MachineCheck = 0 UseAlternateButtons = 0 UseDPIScaling = 1 [uPDATE] Also make sure you enter them as DWORD otherwise they will not work. And if you only have Aero Basic theme, it will not work. So when I find a solution I will post it. [/uPDATE] This is how I have mine set and it works fine for me. Glass had worked on my before by default, and then I upgraded to 5456 and lost it. So I did some searching and found this. And now she works. I hope this helps every one out. Oh I also used TweakVista to restart DWM instead of restarting the system. Available at TweakVista.com Edited July 18, 2006 by risoftwi

Cool318
Do you have to already have glass enabled?
andrewhaji
Great find. I'm sure this will come in handy to all those who were upset to learn that the old registry hack doesn't work in the most recent builds (such as me, when installing Vista on my "old" laptop). oldaccount1
Great! I really don't see why MS doesn't just add a checkbox somewhere for lower-end computers saying "Force Aero Glass (May decrease performance)".
Khuat
It didn't work for me.
dagamer34
Great! I really don't see why MS doesn't just add a checkbox somewhere for lower-end computers saying "Force Aero Glass (May decrease performance)". Because Aero Glass is useless already. cosrocket
So does this mean it is not video card dependent? I have a Sony laptop with the Nvidia 7400 128mb video card. Even though it is Vista Aero compatable from what I've read there are no drivers available for it in Vista as of yet. Does doing this registry hack mean I'll have Aero Glass regardless of the video card?
