Going on a trip.

It?s a noob question but here it goes.

I am going on a trip towards Washington DC, I was thinking of taking my camera (Canon XTi with 70-300mm lens) and my laptop (it's not Mac). I never travel on an airplane with those things and I am worried if I take it as a carryon will it affect my things when it goes thru the scanning process.

I've taken those things on the plane as a carry on and everything was fine. People do it all the time every day.

Really, the biggest issue is having to unload them all at security.

I would put it in the check in bag but I am afraid they might break it while transferring. As long as they don?t tell me to turn on my computer I am fine, it take like 5 to 10 min from power-up till it?s usable.

all you have to do is take both items out of the bag you carry them in, put it through scanner in a bucket, go through the metal detector and grab your items out of the bucket. nothing will happen to your stuff millions of people go through the airport everyday with laptops.

That stuff should be fine... Don't pack your lenses in your checked baggage though since they handle them like sandbags (throwing them around, etc); definitely carry fragile equipment on. Also, remember no liquids can go past security.

i have had my laptop bag opened up and swabbed for 'bomb residue' or whatever a couple of times... thats about it :D
