DrunknMunky Veteran Posted September 8, 2008 Veteran Share Posted September 8, 2008 Classic franchise has been "bumpy" admits EA bossThe president of EA Games has admitted that Medal of Honor has taken a bit of a kicking from the competition, but said the company has a plan to fix it. "Medal of Honor? It's been bumpy, no question about it," he told Gamasutra. "We hope to have a different strategy there that allows us to get back and bring that brand to greatness, and I feel confident that we have some good moves underway there." Further details aren't forthcoming, although gossip at Leipzig suggested that EA LA are going to follow Call of Duty into the modern battlefield. Which is no surprise at all given the massive success of CoD 4 - but what can they do to top it? If you've got any suggestions, leave us a comment or drop us an email. gigapixels Veteran Posted September 8, 2008 Veteran Share Posted September 8, 2008 MoH was definitely one of the first FPS war games I enjoyed, but it was quickly eclipsed by CoD. Hopefully they do improve it a lot. I would love to see some innovation from somebody in this genre. Raa
I quite enjoyed the first MoH myself. Didn't really get into it much after that though Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/666650-ea-has-plan-to-fix-medal-of-honor/#findComment-589755636 Share on other sites
IceBreakerG
For those of you that don't know, or maybe have forgotten. A lot of the guys that started Infinity Ward were the developers of the original Medal of Honor game. Probably why it was one of the last good ones lol. Richard Hammond
The last great Medal of Honor was Allied Assault, i played that for so long even after it had died and hardly anyone played it anymore. spacer
The only "fix" for the series is to stop making them. WWI and WWII shooters have been done too many times before, and there is nothing new to add to the particular sub-genre. Ayepecks
They said the same thing about the last one changing the series and "fixing" it. Hopefully they take it to modern combat, too. CY:G
Medal of Honor Allied Assault = AWESOME. I remember the part where you have to enter a Submarine hangar with fake nazi papers, it was intense, what an awesome game. Doli
I hope they do come out with a good game if they go modern but I like the looks and sounds of WWII weapons. MOH:PA in "realistic mode" is still crazy hard. Worked wonders for CoD. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/666650-ea-has-plan-to-fix-medal-of-honor/#findComment-589758310 Share on other sites
Si_
Allied Assault was awesome. They had a good idea with airborne, shame it was let down by poor AI and bizarre balistics. .KICK
Allied Assault has been the best, the rest has not so good. The only way to fix the series is to produce the game standards that made AA so amazing. Every other title seemed to be just riding on the name and not producing quality imo. :( Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/666650-ea-has-plan-to-fix-medal-of-honor/#findComment-589759152 Share on other sites
Andrew Lyle Global Moderator Posted September 8, 2008 Global Moderator Share Posted September 8, 2008 I thought Airbourne was a great idea, but just poorly done. The fact you can start anywhere and skydive was just awesome :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/666650-ea-has-plan-to-fix-medal-of-honor/#findComment-589759222 Share on other sites
Sethos
The fact you can start anywhere and skydive was just awesome :) Yes, the general idea was excellent but didn't work at all in game ... like nothing else did. Andrew Lyle Global Moderator Posted September 8, 2008 Global Moderator Share Posted September 8, 2008 Yes, the general idea was excellent but didn't work at all in game ... like nothing else did. I think airbourne was just behind it's time. Had it been released 2 years earlier it would of done terrific, but they were a little late in making it, after everyone was tired of WWII shooters. I really want to see Medal of Honor look more like COD4. That seems to be the new bench mark for shooters Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/666650-ea-has-plan-to-fix-medal-of-honor/#findComment-589759368 Share on other sites

Sethos
Medal of Honor always stood from some bravado WW2 action. Airborne was just way too bland no matter when it was released, plus had too many over the top unrealistic moments, like those nazi doom troopers able to withstand 200 shots - What the hell was that?!?! KiHu
^ So true, but I have to say that even though there were some unrealistic moments, I think Airborne was an awesome game, i think ive played it through like 15 times now.. The only "fix" for the series is to stop making them. WWI and WWII shooters have been done too many times before, and there is nothing new to add to the particular sub-genre. There is actually one part of the WW2 genre that I have yet to see. or if someone can point me in that direction a WW2 with a deep... German storyline. as in, main character being a part of the SS or something. now that would be interesting.. Si_
Then again, didn't the original team that made AA go off to become Infinity Ward? There's a level which is exactly what you're describing in CoD1... hm. Anyway, let's wait and see what EA does.
