Nagisan
Recently built a dual quad-core workstation, both CPUs are liquid cooled and I wanted Overclock them. The mobo they run in is a SUPERMICRO MBD-X7DAL-E-O Dual LGA 771 Intel 5000X. After rebooting and heading into the BIOS, I was unable to find ANY settings to change the FSB speed. There were settings to change the CPU multipliers, but not the FSB itself. That being said, any suggested software I can use to overclock this machine? I have tried Systool, but it doesnt seem to run under Vista x64 and it seems no new versions will be coming out. Thanks for any suggestions on software or possible ways to enable some sort of FSB settings in the Bios. Liquidfox
That's because SuperMicro are crap boards, buy something better and you'll find you get the options to overclock... i never recommend using Software to clock, things can get nasty. +PeterUK MVC Posted September 22, 2008 MVC Share Posted September 22, 2008 If you wanted to overclock you should of got a LGA 775 board NOT some dual LGA 771 Server Motherboard. shihchiun
AFAIK, you can't overclock with software if the BIOS doesn't even support it. Not when I'm doing high-end renders that take hours upon hours to render out. Dual processors work much better on the work that this computer does then a single higher clocked processor. Not to mention the model I'm currently working with wasnt happy with 4GB of ram, had to stick 12GB in it. PS: I have a 2-node render farm, each machine in the node is running dual quad-cores, I have the host machine render as well and theres a notable performance difference between running a single-socket 775 and a dual-socket 771. In short, I didnt buy dual-quads with the hopes of overclocking, I just wanted to overclock as a bonus. shihchiun said: AFAIK, you can't overclock with software if the BIOS doesn't even support it. Thanks for the info, I might end up picking up a skulltrail to replace this Mobo eventually. You are going to pick me up? lol. Just kidding. If you want, you can try nTune (nVidia). I've used it before, it's pretty stable. I don't have a NVIDIA motherboard and I can overclcock. Can't say the same for the graphics card since I have an 8500GT.
