kernal_inpage_stack_error - Server 2003

Recommended Posts

Helo, I bought two HP Ml110 G5 servers, both use to run absolutly fine, then one started to BSOD into kernal_inpage_stack_error.

I thought it might of been a problem with Windows Server 2003, so I reinstalled it without any service packs, about 2minutes after a reinstall I got the same message.

So I replaced the ram with some good known working ram, and I still get the problem.

When I bought the servers I got 3 years on-site support free, however HP isn't being at all helpful, stupidly expensive to ring up and I'm on the phone for AGES and still no results, so I'm thinking of just sorting the problem out and ringing up saying "it's this, replace it for me"

Could it be HDD, mobo, or even CPU?

Sometimes, the PC can be on a few minutes and BSOD, could be hours, could be days.

My other PC is exactly the same setup and works a treat :)

Do you think HP would ring me back, if I said this is my number ring me back, as the telephone number is 8p a minute or so :(

What is the error number?

There must be KB article on support.microsoft.com that you check to see what Windows thinks is the issue.

I suspect its a hard disk (or cable) issue since its a paging error.

Also, check memory using http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp

8p per minute isn't that much. HP servers are **** by the way we! When you get it up and running again check the Event log. It might have logged the error in there. Then you can view the help and support page. Are you sure you have all the latest drivers and patches etc?

The replacement ram you tried is the correct memory for that server. I know the compaq/HP servers can be really annoying with requiring exactly the correct ram. Generic RAM seems does seem to cut it. Crucial.com/uk does some stable compaq server memory. To me it sounds like a RAM problem, however it's a hard one to guess. It might be a power problem. Have you tried it in another location, i have seem servers go a little weird and it turned out that the power supply was rather shakey with too much on it (hopefully however your running yours on a UPS).

Yer I'm going to ring them up today and just pretend it's affecting my business or something like that, it might get them to move quicker lol.

Might just ask if they can replace the whole server and give me a new one, it's only a cheap one, but better then all this troubleshooting as by the sounds of it.

It could be HDD, Mobo, PSU, Processor? (deff not RAM)

Might be easier/quicker for me and HP to do that, it's only a cheapy server, so it shouldn't be a problem for them.

It has 3years (on-site) warranty, hopefully they won't make me pay, as it's a problem with the server, nothing i've done, and it's only a few months old.

but when I ring them today, i'm going to get them to ring me back if I can, cos I don't pay the phone bills :p

Ooo, so I rang HP, was on the phone for 15mins, told me to download and run an offline diagnostic utility, which I dod, and it passed what it tested, didn't test HDD though hmmm.

Then I rang up said it all works, then I really stood my ground and refused to get off the phone and it was 5:50pm, they all clock off at 6pm, so I kept saying "it's affecting my business" bla bla.

In the end he said "ok sir, i'm gonna send you out a new mobo" will be here on monday or tommorow, depending on when they ship it.

so fingers crossed this will cure my BSOD's!

if it doesn't then it's down to HDD, which i'll probably just go and buy, alot easier and quicker

    • When you're in enterprise IT environment, you're kinda forced into it...otherwise I'm not touching any mail client for personal use.  I can't stand New Outlook. It's complete trash - half the features I need in (Classic) Outlook are just missing in New Outlook. I haven't talked to a single person who actually likes the new client.
    • I think it's cute that Apple is implementing their tools at precisely the same evolutionary level as other devices' tools. In other words, I see no innovation; it's "the same but different." "Hey Siri, help me write this document about shoes." Powered by Google. "Sure thing, while we're here, can I interest you on some Nike's? They're on sale at Target right now!"
