Hooking up two devices to a monitor

Recommended Posts

I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to this stuff..

I'm getting an xbox 360 soon and it performs better on my monitor than my tv, but I only have the one monitor. If I get a dual VGA cable, and connect my PC and xbox to the same monitor, will that work?

What happens if both things are turned on?!

Thanks in advance :)

No it wont work, you need a VGA switch instead.

Sorry to be a pain but I have another question.

I've read reviews and one of the best monitors for gaming seems to be this one - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct....rodid=MO-071-VS - and it's also a nice price, so I want to buy it.

The monitor has multiple inputs (HDMI, DVI, analogue) - can I connect my PC using DVI, my xbox using HDMI, and switch between the two? Or would I need an adapter/switch like I do with my current monitor? And if I need an adapter, would it be best to get a DVI to HDMI adapter, and plug that and the xbox into a dual HDMI switch, which then plugs into my monitor?

Thanks again :D

I have the same VGA switch and it works perfectly. The only downside is having to reach under the desk to flip the switch, but that's nothing to worry about.

If you're going to buy that monitor, then you should be able to just plug each device into a separate input. I think that's the same monitor that they use at MLG, so it's probably a good one :)

The MLG monitor/TV is based on this one.. I think it's just a branded version.

I did a bit of searching and found out there's a button on the front of the monitor that switches between inputs. Definitely buying one of these bad boys :D

Thanks!

Actually I tried this once with a dvi splitter cable, I plugged the one end into my monitor and the other two into xbox and my pc. It...kinda worked.

Even if only one device was turned on, there were tons of flashing pixels on the screen, it just looked like i had thousands of dead pixels, apparently from the interference of other device or the splitter....

I ended up having to just get a switch though, like what was already recommended. :p

    • Sound Booster 1.13 Build 575 by Razvan Serea Increase volume on your laptop. Boost the volume of even very quiet speakers. Raise volume above maximum. Letasoft Sound Booster can be used as an extra amplifier when the volume of the program you are listening to is too low for comfortable listening and you feel that your PC’s speakers can produce a louder sound. This can be the case when the audio or video has been recorded at the level below normal. Or, for example, when the other person’s microphone you are talking to on Skype, is not working properly. There can be a plenty of other reasons why the sound is being too quiet and there is not much you can do about it except buy external speakers. Sound of any application that is being played in the system can be amplified up to 500%. Letasoft Sound Booster can raise volume of programs like web browsers, on-line communication software (Teams, Discord, Zoom), any kind of media player or games. Simply put, volume of virtually any program that can play any sound in PC, can be boosted to a comfortable level with Letasoft Sound Booster. You can control current volume with the pop-up slider from the system tray. Alternatively, you can assign system-wide hot keys for increasing and decreasing, and use them when you need to adjust volume Letasoft Sound Booster constantly monitors current gain level and prevents samples from clipping, thus reducing all major sound distortions. • I own these and the normal QuietComfort ones from Bose. The QC are amazing and I want to love these, but for the life of me, I have a terrible time getting them attached to my ears.
    • Thanks for the tip. I am giving it a try. Initial quick impression: I like it.
