Insurance won't be cheap for you for at least 9 more years.

Serious? I was lucky got a new 1.2 corsa with 3 years free insurance when was 25 but I got quotes for a 3 year old coming out to ?1000. Is there any reason other than the car why the cost is so high?

You're not an OAP who uses their car twice a week to go shopping.

Insurance is allowed to be agest / sexist. Legalised daylight government robery.

I was paying 4K for my Type R when I was 20. I also use to lie and say it was garaged.

mate 1.1 106- 1.4 diesels its absolute madness, my engine sizes dont even kreep above 1.2

Age of car, value of car, area you live in can alter prices a lot.

What year is the car, how much it cost?

I understand that all I am saying is I had a similar size engine car and had quotes a third of his. So I'm trying to be helpful and find out exactly why is is so high and not just effectively saying man up and pay up. He might be able to save some money.

Have you done the obvious things like adding mature drivers, trying price comparison sites (and contacting those that don't offer quotes on such sites), lowering the excess and switching to third party cover from fully comprehensive? Also look into Pass Plus.

Don't lie to lower your insurance premium though. You may run into problems if you have an accident.

Don't do this. The reduction in premium will be less than the cost of the course, and only applies for a year.

I'm 19 got my licence for about two years and they asked for over ?5,000 for annual insurance for a 1.2L car. Only way to get cheap insurance is to get no claim bonuses but to get claim bonuses you need to pay the high insurance and not have an accident. The insurance prices in UK are just unbelievable!

Try "insure the box" insurance.

The only real option you have then is to insure someone like your mum or dad on the car as a named driver. As they are lower risk it should lower the premium. DO NOT PUT THEM AS THE MAIN DRIVER, the is illegal!

The other option is if owning a car is not so important now then get yourself insured as a named driver on a parents car. Some insurers will give a no claim bonus to named driver so you can build it up like this. Even if you dont get the bonus going to a broker and showing you were claim free for so long may get you some discount. But obviously this route only helps in the future and if owning a car right now isn't important.

Think outside the box with car choice. Insurance is all based on statistics. The majority of new/younger drivers seem to go for small engined cars like a 106 which results in these cars being involved in more accidents which in turn means higher premiums. You may actually find that a larger engined car that's not such a popular choice with new drivers, like a Focus 1.4 or 1.6 for example, would be cheaper. Don't always assume that the smallest engined cars will be cheapest to insure.

Just have a play around with getting quotes for cars that aren't the obvious choice. Where have you listed the car as being parked overnight? Garage can work out more expensive despite logic suggesting it would be cheaper. Choose different options. For my area choosing on-street parking was cheaper than residential parking for some reason. Add an older female with decent no-claims as a named driver on your policy and you will likely find this drops it a bit. Also play around with the annual mileage and the job title you specify can make a huge impact too. Not that you should lie at all, but some job roles can come under multiple categories and some work out for more expensive quotes than others.

I would also suggest calling insurance companies rather than using comparison sites - they are useless. You'll have to call a few different companies to get an idea because as I said, insurance is all about statistics and just about everything can affect it so what works out well for someone else may not for you.

F**K me insurance has got expensive in recent years, I'm only 23 but when I passed I insured a 1.4 fiesta for ?1000, down to ?800, then Rover 214 ?700, ?600, Rover 25 ?500, ?500 (dropped the excess down so premium stayed the same). I'm just about to renew and I'm getting quotes for ?400.. (of course Rovers aren't exactly typical young persons cars, but you get a bit more car for your money cause people don't like em so sell em cheap)....

As for an insurer I've been with Direct Line from day 1 so give them a try...cheapest quote I have for this renewal tho is Hastings direct, also try endsleigh (supposedly they're better for young people, cause they were created by the NUS, dono if they really are that much cheaper tho)

but yeah...try getting quotes for other cars

also how new is your car? the newer the more expensive your premium is gonna be...

+1 to Phemo's suggestions, also its SDP or SDP&C cover?, try fully comp and 3rd party F&T, I think in my 2nd year fully comp was cheaper than 3rd party...basically play around with every options available within the relms of the truth...
