I simply cannot do anything with this folder. It was automatically generated by Sharepod, it was supposed to be "In Search Of..." expect there's a dot missing and it's kinda acting like a filetype (asks me if I want to change the filetype, I can't).

I cannot delete it

I cannot rename it

I cannot move it

I cannot copy it

I cannot do any of the above in safe mode

I cannot do any of the above from the command prompt

I cannot do any of the above in the recovery console.

How the hell do I remove it?

use this: http://www.dr-hoiby.com/WhoLockMe/

and you can close whatever processes are using the folder

Tried that, didn't work, there are no processes latching onto it. Besides, I've booted from the XP CD into the recovery console and it's still the same so nothing in windows is holding it.

Primortal, what do you mean?

if you do a 'dir /x' at the cmd prompt it will display long filename in the old dos 8.3 file format. You might be able to delete the directory with 8.3 format. What does windows explorer say? Can you rename it in cmd or explorer?

Did you uninstall the Sharepod program and it was left over? If so, reinstall the program again, and then uninstall it. I had to do this with another application. It left a folder in my program files directory. I couldn't do anything with it. So I reinstalled the program, then uninstalled it, and it was deleteable. Oh and I had to restart my computer when I reinstalled it. So try this if you can.

Reinstall theSharepod

reboot,

then uninstall Sharepod

then try to delete the folder

It may work

I can't rename it in cmd or explorer. Explorer says "Cannot read from the source or disk" CMD says "Cannot find the file specified"

Deleting it via 8.3 names throws up no errors but doesn't delete it.

Sharepod is a program that lives on my iPod it doesn't get installed, it drags the songs out via their ID3 tags and creates directories. The problem being that you can't create a folder called "In Search Of..." with the dots, yet it has :| When you try to create a folder with the dots in CMD or windows, it removes the dots, yet Sharepod has created it.

My last option is formatting the partition.

Right click the folder, properties, security tab then look at the groups / users listed and check the permissions for each.

Edit - is it NTFS, if so the security tab missing means you have no access at all to the folder.

On a parent folder you could tick the box to replace permission entries on all child objects with entries shown here that apply to child objects

i think no security tab also means he might be on FAT.
