ATI HD 6870 Artifacts

Recommended Posts

I recently built meself a rig and everything working good, but i got a wierd mouse artifact twice within a week. Looking at the GPU seems to work fine, temps is cool, playing all the latest games without a problem, so I don't have a clue what could be causing this. It happened twice and as far as i can tell, Youtube seems to trigger it...! I can get rid of it either if restart the pc or close Youtube and open it up again:huh:. I used a couple of print-screen programs to capture the cursor but the artifact does not show up the cursor looks fine.

I tried to run RivaTuner thing and it gave me a bluescreen. The system seems to work flawless minus the weird mouse artifact.

Any suggestion lads!

youtube's hardware acceleration seems to like to mess with the clock rates in ATI cards... basically ATI cards now come with a bunch of different clock rates built in which they will select , like slow for 2D to save power and full speed for 3D , etc etc

what i think is happening is that the Flash hardware acceleration is causing the card to enter a wrong clock rate or something

by the way,

no, the system is not running 'flawlessly' when you cant launch RivaTuner...

could be a hardware fault, could be a driver issue.

try amd forums and see if you can find a thread with the issue imho. it mnight help if there's a fix you will find it there.

I tried all the stress tests, everything has passed. I'm hoping it's a driver problem, I play Battlefield BC 2 and MOHA in max, and I haven't encountered any problems. Like I said before YouTube seems to trigger it mostlly so I hope Its not a big problem.

i've read a couple desktop bug fixes in drivers from amd recently and knwoing amd they might have been reintroduced in more recent driver updates.

if it only happens on the desktop, don't worry about it too much but look for future updates that fix if if it annoys(and it would annoy me too)

btw it';s not aftermarket when you buy it from an AIB partner like saphire or xfx. after\market is when you the consumer put something like a zalman HSF on it.

if it is a card fault GL getting an RMA on it. my reasearch on saphire WARRANTY AND rma INFO HIT A DEAD END SADLY. oops orry caps. damn netbook hates me

Its just plain Saphire thing, i bought it from newegg but i have thrown away the packing which i know its a huge mistake. As far as newegg's policy return is, you must supply the original packing that came with the card which in my case i don't have it.

As i stated on my previous posts, i have no problem running any games or anything that's GPU intensive, i stress tested all the components, CPU. RAM, GPU and HDD's didnt encounter any problems.

Edit:

Its You-tube that causing it but not every time i open it, it just happened now viewing an embedded you-tube video on Neowin, I'm not so worried about it now, looks like just some bad drivers.

Yeah, I have exactly the same card.

Cheers Treemonster, I knew it wasn't after-market, but what's it called?

Anyway, Stupid question, I take it you have un-installed and reinstalled all the drivers etc.?

I'll be honest with you mate I haven't because I'm not at home but i will give a try when i get home. :pinch:

non reference/AIB partner version. :p

most people refer to it as <partner name> card name

and yeah good advice if there is any.

Any chance it could be a buggy flash thing ?

We all know how flash is full of bugs/issues.

definitely could be. flash 10 seems to be pretty decent for me, and i use youtube about 2 a week at least for a few hours but i don't really watch the videos, i just listen to teh music while focused on another firefox tab. some videops on youtube still stall and buffer issues, but it seems to be the videos themselves as it only happens in the same videos since i favourited them like 3 years ago no matter what version of flash or my hardware or internet speed.

No, with me it was the opposite I had the problem only when i played youtube videos and most embedded youtube videos, gaming wasn't a problem at all. It was a problem with flash. After reinstalling drivers my problem was fixed, but i do seem to have a problem trying to install Catalyst 10.11. It just wouldn't detect my hardware.

10.11 is only for 5xxx series and lower

10.10+10.10 e hotfix is for 6xxxx series and lower

we need 10.12...

What did you mean by "mouse artifact"? Occasionally something or other triggers my mouse's graphic to be corrupted. I see the very tip of the mouse icon, and repeated 6-7 times below it. Sometimes it fixes itself, sometimes I need a restart.

On a 5850.

that stuff below is what is called artifacts.

I also used to face problems with my 5870. Artifacting on desktop, white dots, etc. This happens because ATI down clocks the card to save power, but the problem is it goes too low. All I did was edit the BIOS values on my card for 2d and then flash it, and viola, problem solved!!
