andrew_
The purpose of this thread is to discuss the roadmap (eg. new features and changes) for the next version of Gmail Notifier Plus. Please feel free to make feature suggestions and request changes to the application. Please do not post here about errors. Use the GitHub Issues Tracker instead; https://github.com/shellscape/Gmail-Notifier-Plus/issues'>https://github.com/shellscape/Gmail-Notifier-Plus/issues Anything that's been striked out (like this) means it's been completed. R & D - Stuff that I'd like to do, but have to look into it first. UPDATE - All of these items, while completely doable, are going to take a LONG time to implement. Because of that, I'm going to slate this for a later release, if it ever gets done. All of these require IMAP and that means a more complicated setup for users, a lot of code and a lot of testing. Just not going to happen for the 2.4 version. Mark as Read (doable) Mark as Spam (doable) Delete (doable) Archive (not doable) Mark all as Read (doable) New Features Toast notifications. Flash taskbar on new email. Mail count in system tray. (for small icon users) New Options Disable Previews (Default: false) (decided against doing this) Flash taskbar on new email (Default: false) Show mail count in system tray. blackwolf
let me just say, you are THE man for doing this. i have been trying out so many mail notifier programs and i still liked this one the best but it just didn't have enough options or features. i really wanted system tray and pop up alerts. it says you added all these features. i loaded your version up but it's the same as the old one? have you done them already or still working on it? andrew_
Unless someone else can enlighten me, I know of no way for an application to maintain a spot on the taskbar without appearing in the alt-tab window list.

andrew_
Nice going. And what about localizations? Can help with Russian Thanks, I'd appreciate that. The current English locale file can be found here; https://github.com/shellscape/Gmail-Notifier-Plus/tree/master/Application/Resources/Locales. I'd prefer if people forked the repo, added a locale file for the language they're adding and then filed a pull request. But I get that GitHub is daunting for new users (it was for me). Or you can download that file, modify it, and send it to me. Thanks for offering to help.
andrew_
If you're patiently awaiting the next version, keep an eye on the original post in this thread. I'm marking off items as they're completed. Blazar 1 Share

PeterDLai
Is it possible to add IMAP IDLE support (which Gmail's IMAP server already has support for)? I'm not sure if it's more efficient than checking every 1 minute, but it does appear to be more instantaneous like push e-mail.
andrew_
I'm considering adding some IMAP capability to the program to allow for things like 'mark as read'. Using the atom feed is pretty efficient and there's already a lot of code in place using that method. I don't want to say that it'll never happen, but using IMAP for checking gmail is highly unlikely for this next major release.

Andre S. Veteran Posted February 27, 2011 Veteran Share Posted February 27, 2011 You might to add somewhere just what is the app and what does it do for me. Your README explains useless details like how you obtained the code through reflector, but not what the app actually does and how it can be installed/used!
