While Microsoft is continuously aiming to push the boundaries of creating a tablet that can replace your laptop with the recently released Surface Pro 4, it appears that the company had other plans for its tablet lineup too. New renders have emerged online showcasing a rather unusual-looking "Microsoft Mercury" tablet device.

These alleged renders of the Microsoft/Nokia Mercury were revealed by former leaker Evan Blass. Given that this is the first mention of the existence of such a device, no specifications or other details are known. The design is rather unusual and at first glance, gives off an impression of a smartphone instead of a tablet. However, on closer inspection, it does look quite similar to the Lumia 2520 released by Nokia around two years ago.
It would've been interesting to see where Microsoft would have positioned this device if it was released. But given that the company has its own premium Surface lineup, the tablet would have possibly been a low or mid-end device, if real. With that being said, Blass has an impressive track record but seeing the lack of evidence and details regarding the alleged device at this point, we'd advise you to take this rumor with a grain of salt.
