Facebook adds features to donation tool and eliminates fee for personal causes

Facebook has announced several changes and improvements to its Fundraisers tool, probably the most welcome change is that Facebook is eliminating the platform fee for all fundraisers for personal causes, which will mean they’ll be able to keep more of the money they’ve managed to raise instead of handing a portion over to Facebook. The firm did throw in a caveat, however, saying that a small fee is still charged for payment processing and applicable taxes.

Another change that Facebook has introduced is the ability for fundraisers to pledge to match donations up to an amount they choose between $5 and $2,500. By making this change, the social media giant hopes to help fundraisers build more momentum for their cause so that they can meet and even exceed their goals. This feature is only available in the U.S. right now but will expand internationally.

Lastly, Facebook has added more fundraiser categories, allowing users to donate money for family issues such as adoption or new baby supplies, faith causes like missions and religious community events, educational trips or to cover travel costs needed to get medical attention, and a category for volunteering causes which will help people fund programmes or supplies.

You can create a new fundraiser from the Fundraisers page.
