Game publisher Activision and developer id Software have confirmed the inclusion of four-player deathmatch in DOOM 3. U.K.-based developer Splash Damage - which recently worked with id on Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory - will be co-developing DOOM 3's multiplayer levels with id. The team at id has made no secret of their intent to mold DOOM 3 into "the most terrifying single-player experience ever created." The recruitment of Splash Damage should allow id to continue focusing on the game's single-player content while adding the classic four-player deathmatch mode that helped make the original DOOM and its sequel so popular. Activision announced in a recent earnings call that it expects to release DOOM 3 in early 2004.
