The water looks great, as does the lighting. Pretty.
I especially like the Half Life 1 helicopter tribute shot!

Do your really expect anyone to believe your predictions?

Now, after I've seen Far Cry and even Painkiller, HL2 seems like "just another game", and from those screenshots I can see that FarCry has better graphics. (Look and compare the egde of the water in the shore at one of those screenshots, and compare it to FarCry's waters"
Maybe those screenshots were taken at medium quality graphics...
All I want to see now is Halflife 2 with BETTER graphics than those screenshots, and the only thing that will impress me is for the game to have better engine than FarCry's, and to be not so demanding as this one.
I want to be able to play the game @ full graphics @ my 2600mhz cpu/512mb ram/radeon 9800.
Im waiting for battlefield2 anyway, that will be the king
By the time it comes out, of course, my machine won't have the horsepower to handle it!
Hope I land a better job someday soon.
go play that if you can't wait, it will put u right off hl2
Doom III looks much much more interesting.
Seriously, the enviroment in Half-Life 2 looks really ugly to me. There are too many flat surfaces, like Half-Life, but better texturing and models.
You see, the case with HL2 is the same: Very high expectations, probably almost none fulfilled.
In Doom III's case, there are no atmospheres to recreate, but a new one to be created, and that's the point where HL2 will fall!
Yeah, the level design sucks. That's because of Valve's 'pipeline' production method that means levels develop over time from ugly concepts to the final design.
and the water isn't crashing into the cement. hmmmmmmmm...
the humans/aliens/enemys are impressive and look very flexible, but the environment im not really digging.
The water is calm, so of course it wont be crashing into anything.
IMHO they should think about redoing it entirelly.
Seriously, the screenshots looks empty, and the textures... well damn I've seen a lot better.
I don't know if valve has looked has farcry (and i'm not saying that the storyline is good here) but at least for the in-game environment (tecturing, sfx, modeling, etc.)
and if you've already played the alpha, you know there's nothing really innovative in the game play (same linear storyline, F6 to save, F7 to load, etc.)
anyway i'm getting it for free (ATI) so I can'T complain really.... but i've been a fan of the first half life and i'm really disapointed to see that this sequel will just be "another" game on the market.
Anyone looked at S.T.A.L.K.E.R. ?? THIS is innovative and Valve should be jaleous because the in-game and graphics looks waaaaaay better than HL2.
I have to agree with djesteban, Stalker is one amazing sounding game. They have pushed the bounds of AI, added random quest generation, giving it replay value, something that hardly any game in the last 5 years has had.
from what i saw, farcry has a lot of campaigns, so no continuous story line, of which HL2 has..HL2 seems to have very good physics though..so i think HL2 will be much better than any game (execpt doom3 - nothing beats those graphics (ok, maybe unreal3) and it seems to have a strong storyline and atmosphere) and about it's graphics, i don't have a pc capable of running everything at max so i don't give a **** about it..
Gameplay > Graphics.
Shame on you for judging a game thats not released yet entirely on its graphics.
Its not often I say someone is absolutely correct, but you are absolutely correct.
In fact, now HL2 seem outdated!
