Variety reports that Paramount has signed the Hong Kong director to direct a film based on the Tom Clancy game and book.

It's official: John Woo has gone game-movie mad. Two months ago, he bought the film rights to Nintendo's Metroid series. Two weeks ago, he entered negotiations with Universal Pictures to direct the adaptation of Spy Hunter, starring The Rock. Today, it appears he has signed on to direct a third game-inspired film. Variety is reporting that Woo has inked a deal with Paramount to helm an action blockbuster based on Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six franchise.

The Variety article implied that the film would be based on Tom Clancy's 1998 novel Rainbow Six. However, the book was developed concurrently with the 1998 PC game and features the same primary characters, John Clark and Domingo "Ding" Chavez. Clark and Chavez star in the numerous Rainbow Six sequels and spin-offs released for numerous game platforms. Both characters have also already made appearances in Clancy-inspired films: Training Day's Raymond Cruz played Chavez in Clear and Present Danger (1994), while indie-film regular Liev Schreiber played Clark in The Sum of All Fears (2002).

ok ok.. ubi soft is now known as nubisoft.. rainbowsix for the PC was hijacked by them and turned to crap... they dont support the game, nor did they fullfill any of their promisses, the game still has bugs, and NO REAL PATCHES, only small hotfixes that broke the game even more, bugs bugs bugs, lag lag lag, NO SDK, NO linux stand alone server, really bad and over priced expanstion... and this is all comming from a real fan of roguespear and rainbowsix... i even run a fan site for ravenshield, with free downloads for the game.

next off. john woo sucks. he cannot make a decent movie, as long as it looks pritty tho, people will buy it. thats sad really.

not to mention the last thing we need is annother crappy move like swat, or something that is going to be ultra trendy and in return a bad movie with bad plot (btw ravenshield plot is the worst imagiinable). bad and over used actors are probably going to be used, and they should jjust stop talking about it.

Let's hope he do a good job, the book is great, and the game is awesome

Why on earth did they pick John Woo when in my view Jerry Bruckheimer would be the best person for this film not John Woo? I have been waiting for years for them to make this film on the book and hoped it would be Jerry Bruckheimer. Who do they pick John Woo of all the people to direct this film, let just hope he makes a good job and does not mess this up...

I just hope they have a good cast lineup...

The replacement killers, with Chow Yun Fat, is Woo´s best film.

ok how could they possibly say that its based on the game.....when the game is completly based on the book!!!! and if it was made in conjunction with the game based on the book....well plain logic states that its base on the BOOK!!! ok having said that, i love Woo movies and i think he will do an excellent job unfortunatly the book has so much content that one movie really wont cover it all.
