According to a job posting on Microsoft's website that was taken down, the company is looking for a software engineer with server experience to work on its next-generation platform, officially confirmed to have the codename Xenon.

"Want to help create a new feature for Xenon not available on any other platform? Microsoft Game Studios Publishing is looking for an SDET with server experience," read the now defunct career page. The hire would create "a spectator mode for many Xenon games, Xbox TV, with tickers at the bottom of the screen featuring recent high scores and game highlights, a tournament system, and tradable trophies."

Currently SCi has released no details of what it's planning to do with Highlander, but creative director Patrick O'Luanaigh weighed in with his thoughts on the franchise, which the company clearly reckons has a lot of potential. You can see his point, too - it is, after all, a game about scary men with big swords hacking each other up.

"There are so many great opportunities with such a rich licence as the Highlander franchise," O'Luanaigh commented. "We will be working closely with Peter Davis and Bill Panzer to develop the Highlander universe further. The concept is ideal for a game."

It's not yet clear whether there will "be only one" Highlander game, but there will be only one 'be only one' gag in this item. Except those two. Ignore 'em. And expect to hear more about Highlander soon.

Ugh. Sites like this are starting to piss me off even more.

THOSE "SCREENSHOTS" ARE EXTREMELY OLD AND FAKE.
THAT "XENON" NAME HAS BEEN KNOWN FOR AGES AND IS ONLY A CODENAME. THEY ALWAYS CHANGE.

Seriously, Neowin - make a closed-off news section where only certain members of hired news staff can post RECENT news. It's getting stupid. "Where uprofessional journalism makes us looks dumb!" more like

Errrrr, I was under the impression that this article is about Microsoft posting the codename by mistake (and thus confirming it although there in no proof of this), and details about the way live is going? Or am I wrong???

Do you know what gets on my nerves about Neowin these days? It's the endless queues of prats that post comments without even reading or thinking about the article!!!

Please can we all start to think BEFORE we post??

Yours truly,

This article has been reported badly. I submitted the same news story to NeoWin this morning but it was deleted.

What has happened is Microsoft posted a job request which provided a bit too much information... Including their new Xbox TV thing which everyone wants to know more about. The Xenon name had only ever been suggested to be the codename, this job offer confirmed it.

That screen shot has nothing to do with this article, I have no idea why it would have been posted...

I like the codename Microsoft is really getting into the whole console thing. But it seems to me that the point Nintendo made about all console makers today was pretty true that instead of being inovative and developing for current consoles the makers are going out and creating new platforms.
