- booyah that's under $400 australian, which i was hoping for

-
#7.1 Posted by Batiu-Drami on 28 May 2005 - 10:48
- But at the same price as XBOX, we'll be getting it for about $700.

-
#7.2 Posted by Xerxes on 29 May 2005 - 09:04
- AUSD$400? in your dreams. Xbox was orginally aprox. AUSD$600 here, if the X360 is same price as Xbox was..then expect about that. However, it could drop as low as AUSD$350 within the first year (like Xbox did) so be patient

- 300 USD = 239,02 €
But in europe it may costs 300€ = 376,53$
-
#9.1 Posted by Stef Nighthawk on 30 May 2005 - 11:38
- Don't forget :
300 USD + 6% VAT in the US.
€300 in EU has the VAT already included which can be up to 21% (that's the percentage of VAT we have in Belgium). This means it sells at €250 + 21% VAT in the EU.

- I am beginning to see Nintendo's reason for not releasing a lot of hype on their console. It's a lot of news in such a short span. Things are changing daily now.
Btw, if Xbox 360 is released first, it will have less power than the consoles that come out after it, its a fact. A year after Xbox 360 comes out, Sony and Nintendo will have that whole year's worth of technological inovations to add to the PS3 and Revolution, respectively. -
#10.1 Posted by threedaysdwn on 28 May 2005 - 15:01
- Well we know the PS3 isn't going to be more advanced than the X360... and I've seen very little reason to believe the Revolution is anything more than an enhanced GameCube.
-
#10.2 Posted by o_87 on 28 May 2005 - 17:01
- And what exactly has "changed"? The fact that they have said the console won't be hugely over priced?
Also, PS3 will obviously be more powerful than the Xbox, but marginally.
The Revolution, as threedaysdwn pointed out, will be no where near the 360 or PS3 in terms of raw power. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but don't make up your own facts please.

- £200 in the UK, so thats $365
-
#11.1 Posted by Banzai on 28 May 2005 - 16:17
- 200 in the uk that sucks, cant they build these things to be a bit more "cost effective"
-
#11.2 Posted by machorro on 28 May 2005 - 16:45
- they could but they would probably sell it at the same price

-
#11.3 Posted by Kushan on 28 May 2005 - 23:25
- £200 my ass, they'll charge us £300, the Uk ALWAYS gets screwed over. Always.
-
#11.4 Posted by Ryster092 on 28 May 2005 - 23:41
- Remember what happened with the original Xbox in the UK? They sold it for £300 and screwed everyone in the UK that wanted one. Luckily they came to their senses quickly, dropped the price by £100 and gave everyone who purchased it at £300 2 free games and a controller.

- well you know how it is, we've got to subsidise the rest of the world.....i mean, god forbid they would have to pay the same or more than us brits!?
least this time, we 'hopefully' won;t have to wait longer to pay more! lol. i dont care anymore..............aint a dime i can do about it.....or is there
-
#12 Posted by obake on 28 May 2005 - 17:22
- I'm calling it now. $299.
-
#13 Posted by Ad_Enuff on 28 May 2005 - 17:29
- If its anything liek any US product they will swap the currency but not the amount.
Therefore in UK its more likely U$300 equals UK £300.00!
Thats why I always import...that and the releases are faster and has prog scan support etc etc etc.

- According to EU law electronic devices are going to have a 2 year warranty on factory defects.
So no need to cough up extra money if the PS3 dies in the first 24 months
Too bad you won't be able to play for probably a month when it dies.

- I've been saying $299 ever since the xbox 360 info was leaked, remember it's all about marketing. People will see $299, and people will say oh that's only 200 thats not bad for a console but when you get into the 300 range people will see 300 and freak out
Let's see if the initial launch will be $299.00 like i've predicted for so long.

- PS3 will be way better anyways...
-
#18.1 Posted by Ryster092 on 28 May 2005 - 23:56
- Erm, I think not. Marginally faster perhaps.... but Xbox 360 will have a better all-round package and wont have the problem of playing "catch-up" like the last one did.
Judging from some of the articles I have read on the internet, Xbox 360 has many advantages over the PS3, most notably the online facilities (the new version of Xbox Live will be far superior to any similar service Sony could produce). In addition, I have read that the Xbox 360 (tri-core) will be far easier to program for than PS3 (cell) which will make it more popular with developers and enable games to be developed more quickly.
I think Microsoft should sell this console at cost to capitalise on the launch head-start they have as well as the holiday season. The more consoles they shift before Sony release the PS3, the more games they will sell and the less likely these people will be to purchase a PS3 (I for one cannot afford TWO consoles, and imagine most others will be similar). Xbox 360 has loads of other killer features too such as all wireless controllers (with charge cables), the cool ring of light feature with corresponding rings on the controllers, interchangable face plates, media center functionality, backwards compatiblity with most popular Xbox games and lots more.
Also they need to make their international pricing structure more fair than it was for the original Xbox. Selling a console in the USA at $299 and then selling it in the UK at £299 is a blatant rip-off and totally unfair. At the current exchange rate of £1.00 = $1.83, they should charge no more than £170.
If they get the pricing right and capitalise on their head-start, the future is bright for the Xbox 360 and may well take the console crown from Sony. -
#18.2 Posted by Jeebus McChrist on 29 May 2005 - 22:29
- Wow. Both of your arguements are null and fanboy flavored.
A console is good based on these little things called video games.
See, the console has to have good games. If you think it will succeed based on hardware, fail.
Sorry to break it to you.

#19 Posted by Kushan on 28 May 2005 - 23:32
- I'm not really surprised, the Xbox lost money when it was released (with the hope of makng it back in games), technically, Microsoft was one of the few companies on the planet that could make it work, they pretty much threw money at it until it did, they have very deep pockets.
And with the worldwide launch, it probably wont cost as much as some people think, I mean think of how many they'll be making, hundreds of thousands, they're BOUND to get a hell of a discount on bulk buying.
Of course, it would all go wrong for them if all the linux geeks bought one to turn into a cheap high-end server

#20 Posted by cryptic on 29 May 2005 - 00:21
- more interesting than the price was the comment about when it will come out,
"We're going to do something that's really unprecedented in the industry by launching the console in all three major markets for the same holiday," he commented
That tells me it wont be near Thanksgiving but Christmas, since only the US celebrates TG in NOV. Probably mid DEC I would think.
Still Im excited that the prce will be that low, I was thinking more like 400
-
#21 Posted by .calibre on 29 May 2005 - 01:48
- Great.
$300 = ~£150. But we get royally screwed, so it's going to be £300 = ~$600

- Not bad. Semi-affordable for me. Hell, I'll just get it for Christmas.
-
#24 Posted by lylesback2 on 29 May 2005 - 07:11
- $300 US? or CDN...? or Euros? since you converted the playstation currency into Euros...
i was expecting to pay $360 CDN for my xbox 360... anymore, and i'd have to rethink it

#25 Posted by witbyt on 29 May 2005 - 08:59
- See how much better this is now that microsoft is going worldwide with the 360? And who knows, maybe they wont loose as much money as with the xbox, not that it bothers them

-
#27.1 Posted by mr_skrilla on 29 May 2005 - 21:00
- well if the PS3 is $400 and it will be worth the price than the XBOX360 for $300 will be an amazing deal!!
-
#27.2 Posted by Word on 30 May 2005 - 08:42
- The PS3 isnt going to come out until 2006 how the can you be so positively sure that its going to be 400 dollars? I didn't think so.
And as for the Xbox360 being 300 dollars that wasn't what the guy said. He said it would be 'In the neighborhood of $300' that could mean more or it could mean less however that seems quite unlikely.

- It does seem kind of steep, not everyone will be able to afford one.
-
#32 Posted by cold-peak on 09 Jun 2005 - 09:43
- yes but the ps3 is going to have much better technology, announced on the news
LOOK YOU CANT JUST CONVERT YOUR PRICES INTO UR CURRENCY BASED ON THE 300 $$$
your country prices will be sold differently for example, Product A sold in USA = 300 $, product sold in UK = 300 £
there wont be any conversion so that countries not using the dollar will pay at an exchange rate for the 300 $ !!!!
It will also be sold at a fixed price of 300

 I hadn't considered it's tri-coredness...

Speaking to TheStreet.com, Allard said that he was "not sure" about the final price point, with a decision on pricing still "probably about two months away" - but confirmed that the price would "be in the neighbourhood" of the $300 price tag of Xbox at launch.
Current speculation regarding Sony's price point for PlayStation 3, meanwhile, suggests that it will arrive at under 40,000 Yen - pointing to a figure which matches the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation's launch prices of 39,800 Yen (294 Euro).

Regarding the exact date on which the Xbox 360 will arrive, Allard refused to be drawn - sticking to the oft-repeated games industry mantra of "when it's done" and stating that the full logistics of the worldwide launch have yet to be worked out.
"We're going to do something that's really unprecedented in the industry by launching the console in all three major markets for the same holiday," he commented. "It's never been done before. So, that's some of the logistics that we're working through now."
Microsoft isn't the first company to plan a simultaneous worldwide console launch; Sony originally announced that the PlayStation Portable would launch worldwide in November 2004, but serious production difficulties and stock shortages led to the US launch being delayed to late March, with the European launch set for September 1st.
