Nintendo's own president, Saturo Iwata, has announced that pricing for downloadable games in the Wii's Virtual Console will range from 500 to 1,000 Yen, about $4.50 to $8.99 in USD. This is in comparison to Microsoft's "points" system, which has you spending somewhere between $5 and $12.50 for a title, and whose library is considerably more limited than what Nintendo has planned for the Wii at launch which should include those tasty 1st party titles.

Iwata also mentioned some of Nintendo's plans for DS integration, which could include use as a touch screen controller for the Wii, DS game play on the Wii (ala GameBoy Player), and demo downloads via the Wii. It's not hard to see why Nintendo would want to closely tie the two consoles together, given the success of the DS.

Hrmmm. $4.50 - $8.99 for Tecmo Super Bowl. Must... resist... but the game is so much fun! Hopefully they'll have bundles of some sort for the NES and maybe some SNES games, but that's to be seen.

This pricing is brilliant. Way to go Nintendo.

I agree.

Not bad prices for some of the classics, but you know that Zelda and mario games will probably all be at the pricier end of that scale.

I just wonder how long it will take someone to figure out a way of putting roms onto an SD card and having them work on the Wii >_>

I think Mario and Zelda for NES will be mid scale and Zelda and Mario for SNES will be at the higher point, it only makes sense that way.

Very cool, a great feature and fair pricing as well.

Oh god I can't wait until Wii is available.

Just for information. Iwata said that these are the prices for any NEW games being sold on VC. Nintendo is opening the door to amateur developers who can make a small game and distribute it via VC. Nintendo has never mentioned the price of it's classic titles, nor Sega or TurboGrafx prices...we will have to wait and see.

I hope the old classic come in bundles like 10 NES games for like 4.50$... cause I ain't paying more than 1$ for a NES game ¬_¬

That sounds just about right, and thats completely acceptable. I have a list of about 20 old school games that I would love to buy from them when I get my Wii.

Sounds good, will they be re-releasing N64 games via the Wii also?
#11.1 Danrarbc641 on 14 Jun 2006 - 07:08
Yes they will, the only console to not have it's games downloadable is GameCube. And that's because it'll play those discs, and downloading gigabytes of data still isn't fun :p

I hate to admit it.. but nintendo seems to have it's headon here.. that being said... GOD DAMN the name is bad =/

I'm new here so please forgive me for asking but have the console prices been posted yet?
#13.1 domgrimm on 14 Jun 2006 - 08:57
Apparently less than US$250. They haven't been confirmed though.

When I read things about the Wii, it seems like Microsoft and Sony have been racing and rushing to have the most powerful and best console, and Nintendo have kind have strolled along modestly and have so much interest in their console without much effort.

why dont you guys just find these games online and play them on your pc? i dont believe they consider it pirating since they dont make these games anymore. i have every nes, snes game made, still lots of fun. its funny how you can fit the whole collection on dvd compared to the old bulky cartridges of the past
#15.1 Quillz on 15 Jun 2006 - 19:16
But they are still selling them, so I'm sure they "care." Would it be okay for me to re-brand every Beatles song of the past as my own just because "they aren't making any more music?"

for me right now its :

xbox > ps2 > nintendo game cube

but the wii is gonna be cheaper, and nice and small, so its looking like a better option than the ps3 to mii (sorry, i had to say it ) and i kinda preffer cheaper.
