The port, which had been previously announced as standard on the stepped-up 60GB model, allows games to be played in full high-definition video and audio.

The company said its decision was made in part by the "sharp increase" in flat-panel televisions now sold with high-definition multimedia interface ports, or HDMI.

Sony also announced that the price of the PS3 in Japan will drop to 49,980 yen ($426), including tax.

i was disappointed with the delay & cost and i was now really considering purchasing the Wii.

I hope the UK 20GB version will have the HDMI port & if they lower the price to the range of an XBox 360 then i will buy the PS3 (20GB).

:sigh: HDMI is just there to enable hardware DRM. It's not a good thing, people.

Actually it is a good thing, now when movie studios start enforcing DRM on thier Blu-Ray disks (and they will), this means owners of the 20Gb PS3 won't have to buy another Blu-Ray player to watch thier movies in full HD (like they would of if Sony didn't add the HDMI onto the 20Gb version)

HDMI has nothing to do with games, it's a copy protection thing for HD movies.

I think too many people are confusing HDMI with the DVI port.

DVI does not mean it has HDMI, but HDMI is always through a DVI port.
