Thanks to ActionTrip for the heads up.

PARIS, France -- Blizzard Entertainment® today announced that the release date for World of Warcraft®: The Burning Crusade™, the highly anticipated expansion for World of Warcraft, will be in January 2007. By adding a few extra weeks to the development cycle beyond its original target date, Blizzard will be able to extend the closed beta test and further refine the new content that will ship with the game.

“We appreciate the enthusiasm surrounding World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade, and we’re excited about putting the finishing touches on all of the new content,” said Mike Morhaime, president and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “We feel confident that the extra time spent polishing the game will result in the high-quality experience that our players expect and deserve.”

Blizzard began the closed-beta phase of testing on World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade earlier this month. The January 2007 release window will allow extra time for current beta testers to participate in the final stages of development and continue providing valuable feedback.

Further information on specific worldwide release dates, pricing, and other details will be announced in the near future.

This was also announced on the U.S forums by eyonix.. it's sad they are delaying it, many people considered using the winter break to level up their characters, but now they can't. However, they are giving pvp'ers more time to grind to the rank they want before the ranks reset.

It was a good move and a bad move from blizzard at the same time.

Saw this coming from a mile away but I think this is the best move on their part. I would much rather for them to bring out a game that has as few bugs as possible rather than rush a product, they know everybody will buy regardless of the quality state, just to release it before Christmas. My respect for blizzard went up ever so slightly. Now if they say anything about Starcraft 2 I'll be happy, release a concept picture something damn it's almost going to be 10 years at this rate.

I put my account on pause until Burning Crusade comes out, guess it'll be out even longer... sucks as BlueDraGon said, I was looking forward to wasting my winter break playing a Blood Elf Warlock...

Well, there's always NWN2 and DMM&M to waste your winter break on .. and your family ;-)

And in case someone wonders - the new release date for WoW:BC is supposed to be the 23rd of January '07.

I was going to use that in my news post, but I figured I got slammed for mentioning the South Park episode once already, don't need to again
