Electronic Arts has finally released the playable demo for the PC version of Need for Speed Carbon, the next game in the long running Need for Speed franchise that will be released to retail on November 1st. The demo clocks in at a medium sized 650 megs and offers playtime on a circuit and drift track which if you win in both will unlock the Canyon Duel against Kenji. You can choose from 3 cars, and you will have access to the much talked about autosculpting feature which will allow you to morph your car into pretty much whatever you want.
Here are some of the features EA is touting for the full game:
- Survive the Canyon: Leave the streets to battle rival bosses in the canyons outside the urban center. All-new Canyon Duel and Drift race modes are the ultimate test of skill and nerve, where one wrong turn could cost you more than the race.
- The City Is Yours for the Taking: Race for control of the city block-by-block by taking down rival crews on their turf, then defeat their crew leaders in life-or-death races in Carbon Canyon.
- Customize Your Dream Car: The revolutionary new Autosculpt™ car customization tool gives you the power to design and morph your car in every way imaginable.
- Represent a Class: Affiliate with the Tuner, American Muscle, or Exotic car classes and prove once and for all who makes the best set of wheels. A new physics model makes each car handle and drive differently.
- Build Your Crew: Strategically choose your crew members and use their skills on the road and in your garage to help you win races and customize your cars. Designate any member of your crew as a wingman and trigger his special skill to knock out your rivals.
- Over 50 Real-World Licensed Cars: Every car is tuneable so you can customize their look and performance to suit your crew.
I have not installed the demo yet, but I do look forward to playing it as I do enjoy the NFS games still. Though I found the PC version of Most Wanted to be lacking something from the previous games in the series. Now where is my damned sequel to Need for Speed Porsche Unleashed?!

Not one to sound pedantic and all but it's just shy of 640MB not 650MB.
That is all.
650.49Mb is correct - It's on my tracker as that filesize.
I have yet to see one single ad in the game yet, and I've played it a good 35 hours by now.

thats what i ment heh downloading it anyway
Care to elaborate, or are we just supposed to take your word as gospel?

Of course not. If I did, I wouldn't be asking for additional feedback before deciding whether it's worth my time to download.
What are you, 7?

You idiot, he's speaking to the same person you replied to.
The demo doesn't feel complete at all. Then again, the MW demo was also the same, but I enjoyed the full game nonetheless. I don't think they spent enough time fixing up the demo compared to the game. It's possibly a crappy port from the X360 version.
That and the PSP version is surprisingly pretty good.
anyhoo, so does this demo even hint at native support for Xbox 360 controllers?
you can't save in the demo and the demo is too dark, you don't even have the option to make it brighter.
I've beat the 1st race and beat drifitng all with 1st place but having trouble with canyon
anyway people don't waste your money on this junk, play the demo see how awful it is.
i'm so upset the demo sucks!!
anyone else having problems with the green flashing lights in this demo ? i do have the latest nvidia drives 91.47.
1 - It's a DEMO, why do you want to save a game in a racing game which allows access to THREE races?
2 - It's a DEMO, wait for the final version which will surely include a gamma correction...
Apart from that, no problems here with the graphics (using nVidia 91.47 on SLI system)
And IMHO, looks like EA is moving again closer to the NFS Underground series, when Most Wanted was funnier with the cops chases... Too bad. They still need to fix a bit the handling of the car, not at its best for the moment, even with a good gamepad.
He is right. The game is pos. NFS MW is much better.
The sad thing is that I know my notebook can handle it as I was just doing up some BattleFront II and Toca a day before.
The whole tweaking out your ride is a joke (probably better on a console). Cool concept for the game but it follows in that utterly disappointing and sickening Tokyo Drift flick ( yeah I said it ).
Was pumped to get it for the pc but I think I'll wait for the Wii version of this. Until then, make mine Toca!
EA does a little better on the consoles then on the PC, but not much.
