Yes, it has begun. The end of 7+ million lives will continue, for on January 16th, 2007, the highly anticipated (and loathed) expansion to World of Warcraft - The Burning Crusade will launch. I know I hear a collective groaning from some of you, but hey, near 8 million people can't be wrong - right? According to a post on the official Blizzard forums by some dude named Tseric, The Burning Crusade has indeed gone gold and will be shipping out to stores in time for the retail launch date of January 16th, 2007.
So get ready to kiss your family members, friends, and husbands and wives goodbye. The world is coming to an end, and it will end on January 16th, 2007. Be prepared for it. Stock up on potato chips and soda. Get out the fireworks!

I'm sure within a few days it'll sell out, for sure. When you have near 8 million people playing it, unless they send out 2 or 3 millon copies in the first few days, it'll sell out heh.
You believe all 8 million subscribers are clearing nax? Blizz mentioned not even 1/4 are doing any of the end game content yet.
Never going back! Real life is sooo much better
And note the wording of Tseric's own post: "The expansion has already gone gold"
Already, as in past tense. It went gold back in November.
Now whether or not a forum post was made last month by a dev announcing gold status is true or not I do not know since I don't browse the WoW forums often. But until I see a press release or a dev say "yeah its gone gold, its done" posted it isn't gold yet. Tseric just announced it, whether it was announced previously doesn't really matter. Every major gaming news site online "just" announced the gold status along with me the other day now.
Oh and you can announce a release date and still not be gold you know
Online games can patch on installation. This makes them infinitely more flexible than they used to be.

I think basically what happens is you buy the game, use the serial to activate to BC then keep the CD for use next time you need to install the game (for whatever reason).
So I think it went into manufacturing in November when the made the original press release and by being "Gold" they are referring to the expansion as in its final launch setup (meaning no more tweaks, changes etc... before release)
But I could be wrong.
The content in the patch just brings the retail non-expansion players up to the same base code, so that it won't cause 8 million people to go insane when they can't play.

Actually the beta is also the original content as well. Blizzard has said that the 2.0.1 patch that is live right now has most of the expansion content in it, just locked at the moment. That's why MC, BWL, and Ony started dropping pally loot for horde and shaman loot for alliance. Jewlcrafting patterns are dropping, new sections in AH for jewlcrafting, the mining and engineering bags are up. In EPL, the entrance to the Bloodelf Area is no longer blocked, but if you try to enter the portal it gives "You must have the Burning Crusade Expansion installed to pass." The 2.0.3 patch coming down via the background downloader will go live on launch date, and will patch either the normal or expansion client, seeing how they are basically the same client, just the key on your account determines which content you can and cannot access. I think the idea behind players using the exact same client is those who eventually get the expansion can just input the CD key on the website and immediately access the content when they log on via the client again.
But then again, I didn't compete in PvP or something; maybe that would've been worse for me, because you need to keep doing that to maintain your ranking.
As for PvE, at least for me it felt like "no special campaign, just build your character with basically only you caring for him -- why exactly?"
The patch we already downloaded is there to patch Burning Crusade up to it's 'final' version after we install it.

The PvP system isn't like that anymore, no more ranks. Now you accumulate 'honor' over time. You never lose it (there is a cap though.) You now use it to purchase items you want, when you want.
Don't get me wrong here, I agree that the PvE aspect of the game is pretty boring but the whole point of it is working as a team. Which is a lot like creating a work of art. It's hard to do. And when you get it right, it's a great feeling. Which makes it an addicting game.
That's no different than any other game (or in real life) really. It's sad, but true.
Can't expect people to sit around and mourn your death forever. Family or not.
its a great game i hope thye improve graphics
lvl 50 and only 20 hours total played? Come on dude.
That it is. And how many people does that stop?
It does break the AUP tho >.>
