While other recently released titles like Bioshock and Medal of Honor: Airborne are based on the visually stunning Unreal 3 engine, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars has been built around a modified version of the Doom 3 engine with MegaTexture technology, which may not look as impressive anymore in comparison.
However if you want to look at the bright side, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars is by far a more system friendly title, as you are about to find out.
Taking the newly released ETQW demo, we have ran a number of tests to determine what kind of hardware you need to enjoy this game with all the eye candy turned on. The game has been optimized rather well and we found it to be quite playable with a mid-range GeForce 8600 GT board using all the high quality settings. We also discovered that this game is not nearly as GPU-dependant as most other FPS titles. Rather, the processor has proven to play a most vital role when it comes to performance, which will help justify those overclocking ventures.

ETQW is really very system friendly, it ran perfect on my old 6800GS in 1280x1024 with some AA activated.
On the other side, MOHA is a very heavy game, at least for my 6800GS, I had to tune down the settings to get acceptable FPS. This game also offers too little tweaking options, you are restricted to resolution, vsync (on/off), texture quality, model quality, decals quality and post processing fx (off/simple/full).
As for Quake Wars, I had a blast with the demo! Even if I was playing with 15-25 fps.
Processor: Athlon64 3200+ (2GHz)
Motherboard: DFI Lanparty UT NF4 Ultra-D
RAM: 1GB Corsair
Video: XFX GeForce 6800GS (256MB/256bits)
Power Supply: Seventeam ST420 (real 420W)
It's an old system compared to what's available nowadays, but it still manages to run everything I want with a nice performance.

Hrm, well, I'm running with:
Processor: AMD Athlon XP 2400+, MMX, 3DNow, ~2.0GHz
Memory: 1024MB DDR RAM
Video Card: Sapphire RADEON X1600 PRO
and I'm barely playing this game. Still lots of thun though, like I said. Guess I'll be hitting that Core 2 Duo with my new machine.
The game is ok but after playing bf2, bf2142 for the past while, etqw just seems 'meh'. What I'm really looking forward to is TF2... hopefully my system doesn't choke on it
Well at least for the 10-20 minutes that I can play it performance was good.
P.S. note the Vista vs. XP performance.
Crysis is everything ETQW should've been, the MP Beta is freaking awesome!
I haven't been able to try the Crysis beta yet. I'll be building myself a new machine before I do that.
The MP beta is DX9
Crysis has the edge on both gameplay and graphics! ( imo ofc. )
Like Wolf:ET before it, it's all about the gameplay and details of gameplay. This game is supposed to be played at a REALLY fast pace. You don't dally about in this one. You rush in, do as much damage as you can (Player and objective-wise), and pray that they only kill you when the respawn counter is at 1.
