Toshiba has rubbished reports that it is currently working with Microsoft on an Xbox 360 with a built-in HD DVD drive.
Rumours surfaced last week, but an unnamed Toshiba exec has now stated that Toshiba is not involved in any such hardware developments.
"It's got nothing to do with us," said a spokesperson to gadget site Stuff. "But we know Microsoft doesn't want to include the HD DVD so as not to limit the user's experience."
Microsoft currently sells the HD DVD player as a separate peripheral for the Xbox 360, and offers various deals for users who want to upgrade their console to a hi-definition movie player.

What the hell does this mean... isn't the effect diametrically opposite from from what the statement says?
PC = constantly upgrade to keep up
^ =! sense of a console... its a "buy once, dont worry anymore" thingy...
adding HD-DVD would make it easy for game devs to sell HD-DVD games and exclude a lot of pi**ed xbox 360 owners who would then have to buy another gadget.

PC gamers haven't had to upgrade much recently thanks to all our games being dumbed-down for the Xbox 360. Thanks!
You mean kind of like Microsoft said no one should ever need more than 640k of ram?

This news report is obviously heavily taken out of context in order to water down the news and bring in FUD. Xbox 360 HD DVD IS COMING.. and sooner then you think..
mlauzon76, when you report news like this..where they take only one sentence out of UNNAMED representative where readers have absolutely no idea what he is talking about and assume that it's talking about Xbox 360 then we have a problem. Then you need to research the news because it's highly controversial.

I'm sorry Boz could you clarify something for me?
So you're saying that someone has reconfirmed the report that was originally "leaked" by someone who has proven time and again to be an unreliable source? I'd like to see where you got the "reconfirmation" from.
Also how is this old news? You didn't even read the link or the source for where that story came from. Toshiba was speaking DIRECTLY about the rumor. The story from the site sourced above was a synopsis. If you checked the source of that story you'd find that Toshiba and Microsoft just confirmed that they are NOT working together on an XBox with integrated HD-DVD.
The only reason why you think mlauzon should have to do any additional research is to satisfy your lazy index finger I think.

Okay since you say you read the thing..
Here's the link they are refering to as a rumour: http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=29807
Do you see what it says: Toshiba working with Microsoft on multi-media hub
Multimedia hub and Xbox 360 with HD DVD player are 2 different things really.
THEN, you see a statement by SENIOR Toshiba executive:
Again, 2 different things. He is talking about the fact that Microsoft will definitely integrate HD DVD drive, but what they will do is probably cooperate with Toshiba to create a multimedia hub under the Toshiba brand name.
What is so confusing here?
Also, try to read here: http://www.smarthouse.com.au/Gaming/Console/P4G5C3U2?page=1 especially page 2 .. 2 different sources are talking about that Xbox 360 with HD DVD coming and they are also taking about that Toshiba/Microsoft Entertainment Hub based on Xbox. Those are different things.
Both Toshiba and Microsoft have also explored the possibility of a new open standard chassis system that allows an Xbox to be slotted into a HD TV screen over 40-inch. The open standard bays will allow hard drives to be upgraded and expanded similar to the way that users can upgrade the hard drive on a PC.
I just wanted to point this out. Btw, when you write: Toshiba denies Xbox 360 with built-in HD DVD.. How can a Toshiba DENY a rumour about a Microsoft product? Now there's a logical fallacy if I ever saw one.

A senior Toshiba executive in Singapore told SmartHouse
Who? What's his name? A senior Toshiba executive told me that they were developing a LP based player.
See, I can make up official sounding stuff too.

Is it either Toshiba or Microsoft? Didn't think so.
How can a Toshiba DENY a rumour about a Microsoft product?
Maybe because ONLY Toshiba produces HD DVD drives? That they are the source of MS' hardware add-on drive?
If they aren't making it, MS isn't getting it. Period.
Now there's a logical fallacy if I ever saw one.
Supporting HD DVD is an even bigger one.
