The Japanese video game titans, Nintendo and Sony, announced wide-ranging, if not entirely breathtaking, constellations of new games and services at the E3 convention here on Tuesday, but did not appear to significantly alter their overall strategies in the fast-growing game market, as Microsoft did on Monday.

Nintendo — which is riding high on the gangbusters popularity of its DS handheld game unit and its Wii home console — continued to aim largely at children and the mainstream consumers who have adopted gaming in recent years, propelling the industry and the hobby beyond its historical base of young male players. Sony, which is finally generating some traction and excitement around its PlayStation 3 console after initial stumbles, directed most of its new offerings at more traditional gamers, as well as at movie buffs interested in the company’s high-definition Blu-Ray disc format.

While far from disappointing, the combined showings from the two companies appeared to leave some of the cognoscenti a bit underwhelmed.

I have to agree, Microsoft really came prepared, and must of thought the Wii and PS3 are going to bring out the big guns, but both fell far short, while Microsoft came over prepared, and showed us all something we are all talking about.

I can't wait for the future Xbox360 games and updates

Also agree. It has convinced me to get an Xbox instead of a PS3 now. Even more so following http://www.neowin.net/news/gamers/08/07/17...e-region-locked

Gotta have Fable 2. May have to get a 360 now, which will be the first of this generation I'd own. Microsoft has really done their homework into bringing us what we ask for.

I can't say I've ever cared for E3. Really its just a media and hyping event and doesn't necessarily reflect the final quality and success of the presented upcoming games.

Oh you are worng my friend,if you see it unimportant, doesen't mean everyone else does, many people wait for these events,to make budget for future buys, that's thinking at the future.

When i was kid,and still now,i was always paying attention for new events that bring new things, that's how the console gamer market thinks, and microsoft is hitting the nail repeatedly.

Marketing my friend, the best get's the mayority.

well Microsoft didn't do any good neither if it wasn't for the BOMB that square enix dropped in the end it would be the same than the others.

So I guess the new dashboard, Netflix support and hard drive installs is just marketing bs? Microsoft clearly had the best presentation period. Final Fantasy XIII was just an added bonus. Actually, Square's announcement that FF XIII was coming to the 360 was more of a shocker than anything else, but even without that they had the best presentation.
