Sony does not plan to announce price cuts to its flagship PlayStation 3 games console at Europe's biggest video games fair in Leipzig, Germany next week, Sony Computer Entertainment spokesman Nick Caplin said on Friday. "It's not going to happen. If you're coming for that you'll be disappointed.".In the 12 months ending March 31, Sony sold 9.24 million units, below its initial estimates of 11 million sales. But in an interview with Reuters on July 16, the company's video game chief said the firm was on track for the current year's target of 10 million sales. Cuts to the Playstation 3's original high price have helped boost its fortunes in Sony's three-way battle with Microsoft and Nintendo in the global video game industry.

New technology like Blu-Ray isn't cheap when it first comes out. There's nothing however in the Xbox 360 Elite that justifies the £250 price tag imo, unless you take into account Microsoft's scandalous hard drive pricing.
One thing you should note is that PSN is basically 1/10th of Live's power, stablity, and overall community. Also, I can count on one hand the number of games you must have when buying a PS3.
Really, the PS3 is really boring in terms of variety/fun in games as well (compare the Dualshock to 360's and 360 feels so much more realistic and doesn't feel like button mashing)... oh well LittleBigPlanet is almost out!

- The Elite is a silly comparison. There is no need to get one now you can get a 60GB 360, functionally that has everything the Elite has. And that is £100 less than the 80GB PS3.
- The dualshock 3 should have been there from launch.
- Blu-Ray has been out over 2 years, it's not just come out.
The question of value is an interesting one. I got a 360 bundle for the same price the current PS3 bundles go for. I want a PS3, mainly for Blu-Ray. But I can't help thinking it's too expensive. That's probably because Sony have been doing their best to lower and devalue it. All I can think of when I have that urge to just buy one.. is that I'm missing out on stuff I was promised, backwards compatibility, ports, card reads, all that other crap I probably won't use. They've slowly been removing it al since the console was announced.
What pops into my head is, what if they do a version with all that stuff back in. Then I'll be ****ed off. Then what pops into my head is the fact there isn't a single PS3 game I give a toss about. Maybe some of the PSN games, but is that enough? Then... Do I want to bother with DRMed up the wazoo Blu-Ray, region locked so studios can thieve money from my pocket by hard locking me from using the proper value of my currency. Wall-E, Iron Man and Dark Knight my force me into it... but am I going to be able to easily play Blu-Ray for FREE in a couple of years time on something like VLC?.... is all this crap worth it once a flat-rate download service kicks off?
Those are the things that completely stop me from parting with my cash. All the dirty, 'customer hating' crap that surrounds that console.

Even if you compare the 60GB model of Xbox 360 to the PS3 you still couldn't get a decent Blu-Ray player for the �100 difference. My point was the cheapest PS3 is good value against the top Xbox 360 model. I do however agree on the Dualshock point, but at least the move towards a single 80GB SKU will iron this out.
Blu-Ray only recently won the format wars, so it may has well have only just come out. Adoption of either wasn't worth it before, but now we have a winner we know Blu-Ray is here to stay.
Edit: Speaking of the 80GB SKU with Dualshock, its £300.

Nah he was right and your wrong. Xbox 360 is still better value.
If you sit close enough to see the difference on a 37" screen, then it is you that should have your eyes checked. I don't mean it in an offensive way, but really, you will not tell the difference normally.
Please don't be a fanboy just because you have it; my friend has a PS3 (I did too, but we basically live 1 street away, so sharing = awesome), and we both agree that Blu-ray is useless for 95% of all home setups.
EDIT: PS, I know the difference of 720 to 1080... But really there is not a huge difference for those either.. in fact 720p gives you a less aliased picture if you set it on a 1080p.
I paid $12 for a NES with 2 controllers and a stack of 10 games.
