Tectoy announces Zeebo 3G games console for Brazil

Here's an interesting concept: A games console that runs on the current 3G mobile phone networks to download games to internal storage. That's exactly the idea behind Tectoy's latest creation (the company responsible for Sega distribution in Brazil). Named the Zeebo, it is geared towards those that can't afford the Wii, PS3 or Xbox 360. The Zeebo will come preloaded with six games, two of which will be made from EA, and one of which is Quake.

Connection to the 3G network is completely free, and the games themselves cost between $10 to $30. The console itself costs $599 Brazilian dollars, which equates to roughly $258 US dollars. What remains to be seen is whether the concept will actually take off, as the idea was tried but failed with Infinium Labs' Phantom gaming console. It looks promising, though, as plans are already being made for the future of the device, with an accelerometer-based controller coming soon.

Heh... cool, free connection to 3G network... sounds interesting. I prefer stick with my x360.
Btw, here in Brazil we don't have "Brazilian Dollars", we have "Reais"... hehehe

"It is geared towards those that can't afford the Wii, PS3 or Xbox 360."
And that would be.... who? The damm things only cost about $300.... and that's in a bundle with a game and a controller. Heck, you can get a refurbished Xbox 360 for about 160 bucks if you look around.

"Connection to the 3G network is completely free"
Yeah, right. Sure it is.

Well, the 360 costs R$1899 (U$$820,3) here in Brasil, so the Zeebo is a lot cheaper. And we don't have the option to buy a refurbished, at least not in the "official market".

And the connection to the 3G network is paid by Tectoy. As it is used only to download the games (10 to 50 MB), it's not that pricey to them.

Brazilian dollars... LOL

I'm really starting to get sick of the crap quality posts here on Neowin, with poor language and little understanding of what is being written about.
