A new entry on the PlayStation.Blog has made a few new announcements regarding the best-selling karaoke game SingStar. The first (and most underwhelming) is that SingStar ABBA is now available for PS3 and PS2. But Sony have shown their commitment to SingStar's online store by announcing over 60 songs will be released in the next few months. Titles include UB40's "Red Red Wine" and Pink's "Get The Party Started". Additionally, a Christmas pack will be available for just under $7, featuring a selection of well-known Christmas songs to sing along to.The most unexpected announcement, however, comes in PS2 disc swapping. Those of you familiar with the PS2 versions of SingStar will know that this is nothing new, but this is the first time the feature will work cross-platform. The best part? It works on any PS3, regardless of PS2 compatibility. Although disc ripping in the style of Rock Band 2 is unlikely, this is still a welcome feature for anyone that resents having to pay for the same song twice.

But PS2 Singstar working in the PS3 is a step forward, and might cause me some grief as my wife loves the PS2 at the moment, just for all the Singstar's we have. Might *have* to buy a PS3 now as she can get the PS3 versions of the game!!!
Why would they give something out for free when they could charge for a backwards compatibility update after the PS2 dies? It's financially unsound.
yes, the 60GB models which are sold on eBay for the original launch prices and up... ridiculous!
