Our good friends at Activision continue to see the 'Hero' series of games as a money making machine, and there is no signs of this frame of thought disappearing any time soon. Eurogamer is reporting that four (yes, four) more 'Hero' games are in the pipeline. Not only that, they'll all be out by the year's end. What are the games in question? Well, firstly, Guitar Hero 5 (supposedly a working title), which is heading for a September release. DJ Hero is on the way for October, as well as Band Hero (are they serious?) in November. What's the last one, you ask? Glad you asked; it's none other than Hard Rock Van Halen, a music game based on, you guessed it, Van Halen. It's interesting to see whole games being created for single musicians/bands, like the upcoming Beatles-themed games, as well as Guitar Hero: Metallica.
These games are all going to be released for PS3, Xbox 360, Wii and PS2, as well as another DS title that will be out by the years end. Personally, I hope they come out with a solid music game that gets rave reviews, and then leave it there, giving it occasional updates and a ton of new songs. What do you guys think? Too many music games, or is this just the beginning?

Computer & video games just aren't what they used to be. It used to be you could walk into a store and see wide array of styles and genres. Nintendo's Wii is an exception, but walking into the games section of Wal-Mart may as well be labeled the Clone Aisle. The same formula repeated and reshaped over and over and over again....
I like the fact that they are expanding on these games and although "DJ Hero", "Band Hero", etc, sound cheesy, it makes sense to expand by releasing titles like this.
I assume Band Hero is just going to be the new version of Guitar Hero World Tour?
I just find this funny though, I have never played the games and don't plan to
You could say that EA is a really just a giant milking machine. But that's an insult to milking machines.
Blame them for making sh---ty games or leaving their games unfinished, not for using a method that drives real income.
You appear to have missed the large Activision logo in the article.
Because that's not how you make quality games, that's why.
Oh, and in case you forgot, Activision is a subsidiary of Blizzard. Which is owned by Vivendi. Which might as well be EA for all the crapolla they've cranked out over the years. Anybody remember Fallout Brotherhood Of Steel? (or Fallout
So, why not do that, you ask? Because it generates a stink that will cling to your company name for a very long time, that's why. You can buy PR, but your reputation does not live by PR alone. You keep cranking out steaming pile after steaming pile after steaming pile and your company will not be known for any of the quality games it may produce. Those quality games will still be downwind from all those steaming piles you cranked out. You give your company a reputation for producing crap game after crap game after crap game and you might as well just change your company name to Ion Storm and announce you're doing a re-make of Daikatana.
Need to read and use brain!
Sorry, that's just what I thought of when you said that
I don't see the attraction myself, you could basically get the same gameplay on an Atari 2600.
It's nothing to do with EA - Activision make the 'Hero' games.
Yeah, my life isn't complete until that's out. Although, I will compromise with a Mandolin Hero.
I can just imagine the multiplayer experience for that one...
Well then Rockband... here I come!!!
Screw all these hero games, they suck and I rather learn a real guitar, to serenade my wife!
