Bethesda held a conference today in London reports Kotaku, where they took the opportunity to announce a new Fallout game: Fallout New Vegas.

The title was revealed by vice president Pete Hines of Bethesda and said Obsidian Entertainment will be developing the game. Fallout New Vegas will release in 2010 for PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.

Very little is known about the game however Pete did give some minor details on what to expect.

"It is not a sequel to Fallout 3, it's simply another Fallout game in that universe. It will be the same sort of role-playing game experience seen in Fallout 3."

Hines continued saying the new Fallout game won't have an impact on Bethesda's internal games, rumoured to be the next Elder Scrolls game also releasing in 2010. Todd Howard, executive producer and game director at Bethesda is in charge of the title.

Obsidian Entertainment is the team which formed after Black Isles Studios closed. They are responsible for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, Neverwinter Nights, Alpha Protocol, and Sega's Aliens: Crucible RPG, the latter which is on indefinite hold.

Expect to hear more about Fallout New Vegas at E3 this summer.

It means he is excited in his pants. Metaphorically-speaking.

Gunblivion was a good game for what it was, but it wasn't a true sequel to Fallout.

You have to give Bethesda credit for letting the original Fallout team make their own sequel, this is going to make a lot of Fallout fans very happy.

Unless it totally flops, which I'd find a bit humorous quite honestly.

Really? Obsidian? This bodes well (sarcasm).

Obsidian have done nothing for a decade except dine out on past success.. and that bares absolutely no relation to their abilities today.

For years they have worked on nothing except other developers (usually Bioware) cast offs and have proven to be unable to cope.

Kotor2, a hideous unfinished mess.
NWN2, just a hideous mess.

Obsidian couldn't code their way out of a wet paper bag... and after tyhe NWN2 cockup I certainly wouldn't ever give them anymore money.

What was so bad about NWN2?

If you just played NWN2 and not the two expansion packs and their associated patches, then yes: I could see how you might be a littlee ****ed off at Obsidian. Frankly, the RTM of NWN2 was buggy as hell.
But, Bioware and Obsidian have been busy since then, patching and patching and patching and patching. Oh, and did mention the TWO expansion packs?

Look, I don't hear you calling Blizzard childish names on account of the long and tortuous path that WoW took to get to what it is today. You know I could say the same thing about just about ever other RPG ever made, going all the way back to the original Ultima series, so next time try to type with a little less testosterone and a little more mellow, alright?

You do know that you're talking to Chuck Norris here, Mr. Walker Texas Ranger.

Now you want him to be like Marsh Mellow?

Seriously though, seems if patching and patching and patching made things better, perhaps that'll help Bethesda where they patch and... well, that's it. Just a small patch, that doesn't fix the majority of other problems... They don't continue to gain money in the way that World of Warcraft does. There is no subscription, much less a good reason to actually patch further issues, so long as the game is for the most part playable...

This sounds suspiciously like a telling off and that is certainly isn't something I put up with from some random muppet on an internet forum...alright?

NWN2 even with patches (which are a virtual impossibility to install offline and it IS an offline game, it was designed that way and the online element is just a patched on hack job..) and the expansions which you seem to hold, unfathomably, in such high regard, is STILL a buggy poor performing mess, I guess it all really just comes down to what you are willing to put up with when you pay money for a product As for not "namecalling" another developer.. well they don't fit with this story, which is what I was remarking on, anyway I haven't bought or played a Blizzard product since Diablo 1, so I have no reason to.

BTW Bioware have NEVER laid even as much as a finger on a keyboard for NWN2... apart from playing it.
