Badass deal is badass.

It's not actually that badass. The console games have gone right down to below budget price, so the pc versio should be about half that.. $9.99 sounds about right.
#2.1 Minimoose on 25 Apr 2009 - 07:37
Only because they are worse on the console, the experience changes a lot with a keyboard and mouse.

That's up for debate actually. I think it falls under your personal preference because I know people who have it on the 360 who swear by it.

Not true. The PC version includes HL2, Episode 1, Episode 2, and Portal... A fantastic series of games. This offer is fantastic value

Crap, only available as a download... WTF, I want it in the box
#3.1 kravex on 25 Apr 2009 - 07:30
If it's anything like other Valve games, you'd only get a DVD which you'll only use once and a thin sheet of paper with a code on it.
#3.2 Frank Fontaine on 25 Apr 2009 - 13:17
You don't need it in a box, Steam automatically downloads the content and updates it for you
#3.3 Dessimat0r on 25 Apr 2009 - 22:32
I still prefer the DVD version as it keeps some install files local, rather than needing to obtain them off the internet. Means a smaller download as there should be fewer patches to get as it because has the game base from the DVD.
#3.4 DigitalDude on 26 Apr 2009 - 23:26
I got the box when it first came out partly for the sheer fact that having the orange box in the actual orange box adds a level of awesome to it.

It is. Who knows when people will be able to get another deal like this, so it is better to let them know.

The Orange Box is an awesome pack of five games. For those who haven't bought it yet, I recommend that you do so, now!

How isn't this news?
#5.7 Minimoose on 25 Apr 2009 - 07:40
It's actually quite useful, I wouldn't of had a clue about this if they hadn't posted it, for some reason steam didn't tell me when I opened it. (I have it already, just some of my friends might buy it now if it's this cheap).
#5.8 Beastage on 25 Apr 2009 - 14:57
People like deals and many members are gamers plus it helps with getting better relations with Valve (useful for news and such)

I like this kind of news. I was rather upset when I missed the sell on Left 4 Dead off of Steam.

They know how to make deals and they know how to code...

Their Half Life 2 Episode 2 Engine simply blows away competition.
Fully multithreading capable and highly optimized and scaling perfectly.

They have some nice devs and design guys.

Valve was and is premium quality, not just a bunch of beginners that want to bubble big

Episode 2 has nice engine additions, but is a bit short, compared to the episode 1.
Wished they made the story bigger.
#7.1 Beastage on 25 Apr 2009 - 14:58
I'm not so sure, taken them very long time to fix the HL2.exe crash on exit and only lately they added (still in beta) multiple rendering.

I don't agree it blows away EPIC's Unreal 3 engine.

Damn, I wish this was available before I bought all these games...

Portal is worth getting.
#8.5 305 on 25 Apr 2009 - 22:02
Definitely. I went ahead and baught it. Gave HL2 and Ep1 as gift to my cousin.
I spent over an hour last night on Portal alone before i realized how late it was and went to bed. Alot of fun. I only took a loss in tf2 being I already had it prior. Oh well.. any of the other games is worth the $10 alone.

I've been out of the Halflife loop for a while.
Can someone explain all the different versions?
#18.1 ozgeek on 27 Apr 2009 - 08:35
Half-Life 2 takes places some many years after Half-Life 1. The episodes 1 and 2 is a continuation of the Half Life 2's storyline. E1 takes place straight after HL2 and E2 takes places straight after E1.

We are still waiting on Episode 3.
#19 SinghKing on 25 Apr 2009 - 17:58
9.99 USD = 6.79450 GBP
5.66 GBP = 8.32194 USD

Nice...

#23 +lcg on 26 Apr 2009 - 11:41
Just bought it - and I'm not really a gamer, but I thought it was an offer I couldn't miss I do already have HL2 - I bought that in the summer of '05.
Thanks for posting this!
#24 Stormeh on 27 Apr 2009 - 03:27
Just got this, all thanks to a slow day at the office which caused me to come to Neowin and saw this news article. (I'm in Beijing, so for me it's now close to 11:30am on Monday morning)

Haven't played HL2 since Ep1 (Got hooked onto WoW after that), so for 9.99, I'd say it's a pretty bloody awesome deal
(1 reply) #25 Turbonium on 27 Apr 2009 - 14:49
So what happens if say, you already own TF2, but want the package for the sake of all the other games?

Serious question. I'm not well-versed in how the Steam system works.
#25.1 Code.Red on 27 Apr 2009 - 21:53
You get what Steam calls an "extra copy" of tf2 on your account, and you can give this away to a friend for free.
