Symantec Corp has announced Symantec Web Security 3.0, which it said features centralised management of multiple servers.

Symantec Web Security is a high-performance, integrated gateway solution that provides virus protection and web filtering for web-based traffic, the company said in a statement.

Its centralised multiserver policy management eases administrative burden, Symantec claimed. The changes made to the web filtering and virus scanning policies on a Symantec Web Security server are automatically applied to all other such servers in that network.

The newly modified policy or filtering can be set for a user, group or the entire system, the company added.

"Enterprises, academic institutions and government agencies in Malaysia are increasingly looking for comprehensive Internet security solutions that do not degrade network performance," said Ross Wilson, South-East Asia senior regional director at Symantec.

"By integrating antivirus and content filtering, Symantec Web Security 3.0 eliminates all unwanted content and malicious code at the gateway, thereby seamlessly securing and protecting the enterprise network against potential threats," he claimed.

Symantec Web Security 3.0 continues to provide the following features and functions:

  • Protection from malicious code by leveraging Symantec's cross-platform NAVEX scan engine technology and the Digital Immune System, Symantec's unique technology that automates the submission of potential threats and automatically delivers cures to problem machines or the entire enterprise.

  • Flexible policy enforcement on a per-user and per-group basis; local control; and automated alerting capabilities.

  • List-based URL filtering in 31 comprehensive categories, as well as Symantec's patented heuristic technology, Dynamic Document Review (DDR), a multilingual, context-sensitive content analysis technology.

  • Comprehensive reporting which automatically provides IT administrators with both virus and content filtering information that can be exported into one complete report.

  • Integrated, single-scan antivirus and web filtering.

The solution runs on Solaris, Windows NT and Windows 2000. It is available now, and the estimated cost for Symantec Web Security 3.0 Media Pack is RM98, other editions with added support options cost more.
