Is October 'late summer' in Redmond-speak?
Microsoft will launch its Office System 2003 suite of products in New York in October, say sources close to the company.
The October date is considerably later than the June launch that many expected earlier this year. But when Microsoft announced in April that it was adding an unexpected beta refresh to its Office 2003 lineup, many expected the final rollout date for the desktop suite and the growing family of related products would slip to fall.
Microsoft officials have continued to insist that Office 2003 will be a "late summer" deliverable.
"We are still on track for a Microsoft Office System RTM (release to manufacturing) later this summer; it will be available to customers later this year," said a corporate spokesman. "That said, Microsoft believes that "quality trumps date" in a beta test, and we will always put a higher priority on doing what's necessary to deliver a quality product."

Rick Finkelstein, president and chief operating officer of Universal Pictures, said he did not expect this episode to significantly alter the studio's marketing procedures. "We are constantly evaluating our internal security measures, and we are always seeing areas where we can improve our security," he said. "This will have a significance, but we don't want to blow it out of proportion."
Gonzalez entered his guilty plea to United States Magistrate Judge Gabriel Gorenstein. He is scheduled to be sentenced September 26.
An insurance underwriter, Gonzalez told the judge that he knew what he was doing was wrong. Asked by reporters afterward whether he liked the movie, Gonzalez said: "I haven't even watched it."

Unless MSN OfficeLite made it out of the alpha stage...which according to Paul Thurott, it didn't.
Microsoft Office 2003 will be a part of a huge package that also includes Windows 2003 Server. Since they have already released Windows 2003 Server, and they cannot rename it to Windows 2004 server, they would call the Office Suit as 2003.
Microsoft named Office Suit as 2000 although they released it in 1999 just for marketing reasons (back then they also released Windows 2000, renaming it from NT 5.0). Now I think they are trying to get back to track by naming the suit as 2003 and releasing it also in 2003.
