*waits for it to leak*

Its really 10mb? Not bad at all - shows that they are either more effeciant or there are only a few minor patchs... shows all the work on this OS paid off.

The OS has been out for what, a month and already they've got a service pack beta?
Quote this comment #6.1 Posted by Unforgiven on 04 Jul 2003 - 19:08
Yes
Quote this comment #6.2 Posted by Hawkeye on 04 Jul 2003 - 20:13
Yes, it has only been out for a short time and there is a Service Pack already. This wasn't done by Microsoft because they desperately needed to release a Service Pack for Windows Server 2003, but rather to please all those people who always wait for SP1 of an OS to come out before installing it, claiming that it's too unstable and insecure before that point.

There aren't many major security fixes in SP1 for Windows Server 2003, just small patches really.
Quote this comment #6.3 Posted by werejag on 05 Jul 2003 - 09:28
this proves that it is too unstable and insecure. i for one now will wait for sp2 before i install it in a working enviroment.

no just microsoft oses. we always claim this about microsoft oses and we seem to be right.

unstable and insecure? did u even look at the list of fixes someone posted? there were less than 30 issues resolved, none of which are major security risks, AND MS is adding a new tool in SP1 to lock servers down so they can be even more secure.

Compare 30 fixes in the first service pack to Windows 2000's 650 in its FOURTH SP, which seems more stable and secure ootb?

I just downloaded it, got the 120 meg iso. Even though it's a beta/alpha service pack i think ill try it just for the hell of it.

no, it won't install on beta builds

They are starting a 2K3 server SP and WinXP has yet to get SP2 that has what, 200+ fixes? XP needs the Service Pack more than Server does, hell, from the post above it only looks like their is like 8 or 9 bugs.

*sigh*
Quote this comment #9.1 Posted by rseiler on 05 Jul 2003 - 07:06
Unofficial count for SP2 is 299 now, and since it's not due until the 4Q I think, it will definitely be quite a stretch between SP's. By comparison, W2K's SP4 was something obscene like 650+, which seems hard to believe at this point. I believe MS intends to get Server's SP1 out this year too, which will make it a very quick and small one.
Quote this comment #9.2 Posted by gameguy on 05 Jul 2003 - 07:19
microsoft usually starts on SP1 for their new OS shortly after the final build is released. it's not uncommon. and xp's SP2 is nearing completion, so who cares?

One thing I want to know is: If you are testing this and have a computer with XP SP1, Is it as bad a XP SP1? And I hope also that the final is not as bad as XP's SP1.

XO SP1 is bad, I have no problems at all here, you cannot put your problems down to a bad SP1 as the majority don't have problems with it.

I heard that some people really had more problems atfer appling SP1 (That's why I never applied SP1)

Unless it's a hardware problem, you'd probably be well off formatting and reinstalling a fresh, slipstreamed copy.

I had problems with Windows 2000 SP2, but once I used a slipstreamed fresh install, it worked great.

Don't bother downloading. It won't install.
