Apple Computer plans on Wednesday to release an updated version of its iTunes program intended to fix bugs encountered by some Windows users.

The company is in the process of posting to its Web site version 4.1.1 of iTunes, which aims to remedy some initial glitches with the jukebox software that Apple released last week. As previously reported, some Windows users were reporting bugs with the software, including a problem that caused some Windows 2000 Professional machines to freeze after installing iTunes. "A few customers reported conflicts with specific PC configurations and we quickly updated the iTunes software in response," Apple said in a statement. "iTunes 4.1.1 addresses an isolated incompatibility with Windows 2000 and older third-party CD burning software, as well as problems caused by corrupt MP3 files on some users' PCs."

It would want to be fixed! I uninstalled it as it seemed to mess up XP's cd writing then discovered that both my CD writer and DVD player were not properly recognised by XP - in fact I could not access them at all! Tired in vain to get XP to fix them up so did a system restore back to before installing iTune and everything was alright again. Useless program

Probably they'll fix whatever caused Nero to crash everytime I opened it after installing Itunes. After removing Itunes, ol' Nero 6.19 worked like before.

Nice, and hey - it installs QuickTime 6.4. Q 6.3 was just released the other day...keep the updates coming
Quote this comment #5.1 Posted by Skyfrog on 22 Oct 2003 - 22:22
QuickTime 6.4 was in iTunes 4.1 also so that part wasn't updated. Personally I don't look forward to this huge download again; anyone know if performance has been improved?

hmm ... download the whole thing again ... *what fun* ... how about an update file ? apple ? or is that just a little beyond possibility ?

I belive you can use the update link in iTunes tomorrow.

"Best windows app ever written" Lol, the best windows app would be one that never needed updating and ran on every system.

Seriously though, I like apple as a company. Very innovative, Like IBM.

I second that.
At least they are releasing fixes rather quickly. Then again, why wouldn't they? They just touted this as the "Best Windows App Ever written." Gotta try to keep up their fallacies.

If you watched Steve Job's Presentation on the new iTunes you'd know that the slogon is a joke.

It's a pretty bad joke, considering all it does is bring out the irony.

It was a rather funny and well delivered joke, actually. I decided to try iTunes and to my surprise I really liked it. No problems except I wasted my whole night last night browsing through it. Even bought a few albums. Apple done good. Now if the record companies could get it to 5 bucks it would be quite a slick deal.

I Third that Motion, I downloaded it prepeared to be astounded by what was being billed as a the future of how we get our music, only to find out that there is NO WMA SUPPORT. UGGGHHHHH!!!!! How can the say they best windows app ever when it can't read the windows audio format.!!!!

Now before you all flame me yes I use WMA. Why - Takes up less space on my puniy 30g HD.

I do not have iTunes I Had it on my system and thought it was actually a great program, One I didn't have to pay for it, 2 there is free streaming Radio, You can listen to others streaming music(kinda cool) . The interface was really nice and it seemed to be more responsive sometimes too. When it supports WMA I will reinstall it

What, because they made an app that works fine on half the computers out there?

Yeah, it was funny when Jobs said it, but taking it farther, no one knows what the hell they're talking about.

"no one knows what the hell they're talking about."

About 20 people have already told you Jagged over and over again but you seem to insist that Apple sees it as a factual statement... Quite a few people don't seem to care... and even a fair number seem to agree... You're the only dumbass who's sitting there whining: "But they lied!!! It isn't the greatest Windows App Ever!!! It just can't be!!!!"

Get a clue and come up with a better criticism than a four word toss away... Try to actually criticize the app and service if you want to be such a militant little anti-Mac softy.

You want constructive criticism?

1. Lack of media support (OGG, WMA, etc...).
2. Rediculous amount of RAM to run (38mb with clean install and no imports, WA: 8, WMP: 10)
3. Sluggish Interface (I don't appreciate interfaces that run like they were coded in Java)

That's why I've uninstalled it twice.

When the hell did I say that, moron? I said yes, it's humorous when some guy makes an off-the-cuff remark in his keynote. Why is it humorous when they just pull it out of nowhere to market their application? There's absolutely no connection, literal or figurative, between their app and what they said. No one's going to find it funny if it doesn't have jack sh*t to do with anything.

I think "the greatest Windows yet" from Microsoft is a pretty retarded statement, too. I think a lot of things are retarded. But no, somehow you think I'm zeroing in on this one just because it's Apple. Get your own clue.

Oh, and incidentally, there haven't been "over 20 people" to tell me anything about iTunes. You're the only one bitching about me. Maybe in your world you count as 20 people, but trust me, to the rest of us you're just one repressed individual.

I have criticized the app. And yet, I still use it. Obviously, this counts for sh*t with you. If someone criticizes the marketing behind an app, they must obviously hate the app to death and the company behind it.

Right? Whatever, fool.

Nice try

1) Firstly, WMA absolutely sucks as a type of media. Possibly the worst. If you use WMA, the punishment should be not being able to use a nice program like iTunes. And OGG support is minimal at best. The quality is highly overrated. It's only used by "computer geeks" who think they know something about sound
2) On your machine maybe. It definately doesn't happen on all. It takes up less than 10 on my parents Dell
3) It's not sluggish. Again, on my parents Dell, it runs as smooth as anything else out there. We're not exactly talking about a high-end Dell here either

What the hell? WMA is fine. WMA Professional kicks the crap out of almost any other lossless format out there. I know plenty of audiophiles who have no beef with WMA, lossless or not.

Gotta love your logic. "It runs like crap on your machine, but it's your machine, so it's irrelevant. Therefore, iTunes is perfect because it runs on my machine, which is the only one that matters."

Get a CLUE! Just because your machine runs it doesn't mean anything.

It's very sluggish on my Compaq Pentium 3 500. So whatever.
Quote this comment #7.12 Posted by superfula on 25 Oct 2003 - 06:28
WMA Pro is hardly anything to get excited about. WMA is for consumers, not for audiophiles. Maybe you should do some reading on the comparisons first.

My logic? Actually that's your logic, I just threw it back at you. You were whining about how it was sluggish on your computer. Get a Clue!! Just because it DOESN'T run well on your machine, means nothing

So you complain about a machine that can't even run Winxp very well. Ah, the anti-Apple sentiment is quite obvious

So you're complaining that the sound quality sucks for audiophiles, then you say it's not meant for audiophiles. Great. So that means WMA is actually a good consumer format. It delivers nearly the same quality for half the size. You think consumers who listen to 128kbps MP3s care so much about audio quality that WMA would be completely unacceptable to them?

Maybe you should do some reading on the uptake of WMA in the industry. It's way more than you'd think. There's a good reason for that.

Um, no. You were the one totally destroying what he was saying because it ran well on your computer.

You said: "It's not sluggish."

This is what we would call an absolute statement. Not "It's not sluggish for me." Just "It's not sluggish." Period.

It definitely is sluggish, for some people, because it just was on both his and my computers.

The bottom line is that if the application can't run well on at least half of the systems it's being installed on, it needs work. I don't care how well it runs on your computer. I don't use your computer.

It runs Windows XP quite well, thank you very much. It actually runs Half-Life 2 pretty well, too. Please take your head out of your ass and stop assuming things you don't know about my system.

As for anti-Apple sentiment, you are the moron who conveniently skipped over the part where I said although I find iTunes very sluggish, I still use it. It's still on my system.

I want wma compatibility, I regrettably encoded some cds at wma, ignorant to the fact only some apps would play them. I know they are competitors, but c'mon, even winamp can play them.

I redownloaded my free pi music (here) and put into iTunes. I also have a CD which I plan to re-rip. However, I have some content collected using Plus! Analog Converter, which saves in WMA. Does anyone know of a good, free program that will save the sound card output to an MP3 or WAV? TIA.
Quote this comment #11.3 Posted by roadwarrior on 23 Oct 2003 - 04:07
Sure, patch your line-out back into your line-in, and use Sound Recorder, it will record in WAV. Sometimes people forget the obvious, easy solutions.

That's pretty sad, seeing as Winamp sucks to begin with.

So therefore the equasion should state

QCD > Winamp > iTunes

QCD > Winamp + iTunes + WiMP + RealOne

Winamp is a product of Nullsoft, Nullsoft is owned by AOL, nuff said.

"Best windows app ever written",bullsh**.

There is nothing new or innovative in this so called jukebox which others don't have.
I uninstalled after just 15 min.

I personaly prefer Media Center 9.1.This may not be the best app ever written for Windows ,but it is certainly THE BEST jukebox available today. It is not free though.

Media Center
This is the link, try it u won't regret it
