- Hacker crap? What are you drivelling on about now?
It looks pretty nice even though I've seen it before. And I should have plenty of time to upgrade before it comes out too

- Perhaps you've heard of it... it's supposedly the reason for the delay from September 30th to "Spring 2004." Come this Summer, I think there will be another push to somewhere around Fall. Then Fall rolls around and "oh it's definitely Winter." Then Winter comes up............ you know the rest
Pretty soon Unreal 3 will be out and make HL2 look like an Atari 2600 title.

- I'm an ATI fan, but I don't know if I believe his statement about the x800 being faster. He pretty much has to say that even if it isn't. Imagine if he came out and said the 6800 is faster after the whole ATI voucher disaster? He owes ATI bigtime.
-
#3.1 Posted by Liquid on 06 May 2004 - 04:21
- It has already been proven faster than teh 6800. By a long shot, its liek comparing teh 5950 Ultra to the 6800
-
#3.2 Posted by Ji@nBing on 06 May 2004 - 04:22
- Like I said, I'm an ATI fan. I know the x800 is faster. I'm just saying Gabe isn't exactly the most reliable source on the matter. He basically has to say the x800 is better even if it was worse by a long shot.
-
#3.3 Posted by Jugalator on 06 May 2004 - 06:49
- The reviews don't seem to all unite behind the X800 though, and the thoughts about the two cards have often been mixed. Anyway, both cards are extremely fast.

Some reviews:

- Uh, this is basically the exact same scene they showed last year. They need to either 1) finish the game and ship it 2) put out a playable demo 3) show some new videos or 4) STFU about it. Releasing rehashed **** from last year doesn't cut it.

#7.1 Posted by shao on 06 May 2004 - 10:26
- almost as if the anonymous poster of the leaked version of the hl2 beta (alpha, pre-alpha, or whatever you wanna call it) was correct in saying the game was far from completion and had little more than what was shown at e3 way back then... ;-)
gabe's full of crap, it's no wonder some of it overspills when he opens his mouth.

- Yup.
I know that I care.. Half Life 2 is worth the wait. Its hardly like we are talking about another exciting addition to the Sims franchise here is it..

- Some people do care. Stfu.

- Why the same footage Gabe? Yes it looked pretty, and it looked extra smooth and tasty, but I've seen that about 200 times now. Literally. Get us new footage. Prove that you're not lying about release dates again.
-
#11.2 Posted by ~Bull}{Dog~ on 06 May 2004 - 08:08
- Wasnt most of the footage thats been released originally shown at least years E3 though? I think thats the point Athlon7 is trying to make.

-
#15.1 Posted by [saint dark] on 06 May 2004 - 05:54

- Tomorrow's Headlines: Navel lint, VIDEOTAPED!
-
#20.2 Posted by Chicane-UK on 06 May 2004 - 07:20
- Except that people wouldn't BUY your navel lint William - and I can't really see ATI dishing out vouchers to obtain free samples of your navel lint with their new video cards.
-
#20.3 Posted by ~Bull}{Dog~ on 06 May 2004 - 08:09
- At least lint is consistant....

- "I have taken the liberty of approaching ATI and Valve about compatibility with the 9800 Pro and the X800 cards running with HL2; which was extremely difficult to say the least" both Valve and ATI have confirmed there should not be any problems with running this game with this card... Although the X800 will be a lot better and you will see a lot more detail. Rest assure anybody like myself who have an ATI 9800 pro 128 card should not have any problems at all...
I'm in work at the moment so I shall have a look at this later on... I read the article at ati.com yesterday about the X800 and what an impressive card this is... One thing I would suggest though would be to hold off on this card for a while until all the hype as calmed down as ATI's store has sold out already... I have also been informed this will cost between $400.00 and $500.00usd to buy which for an high-end card is not a bad price, if you are in t he position to buy one that is...?

- Looks like the AI is still scripted. Notice the guy running towards you and then the player moves away to the right apparently knowing that it will not avoid you.
So much for the hype... I guess.
-
#28.1 Posted by donachello on 06 May 2004 - 10:06
- As an ammeter games developer, I agree with what you are saying Andre, there is also the skepticism of there is no script for the some of the characters to move and opening doors... These cannot function without a script to tell the character to move or for a door to open...
We shall see when the game is released
-
#28.2 Posted by N_B on 06 May 2004 - 10:07
- I noticed that too..
I fear the game won't be ready for summer'04 either.. But we'll just have to wait and see. -
#28.3 Posted by donachello on 06 May 2004 - 10:37
- There has been conflicting skepticism for many months now and we keep getting conflicting views at the moment from all directions. We have seen reviews it's being delayed until 1Q of 2005 and then a summer release...
The gaming community is becoming more and more convinced that this will not be release this year at all because they are so behind schedule because of the source code was stolen and there was an FBI investigation into this theft.
I'm in close contact with Game and they keep getting reviews that it's being delayed and then TBC so nobody really nose when this will be released. It becoming like Duke Nukem Forever... Forever... Forever... this is the longest game in development...
Just pray and hope for a Summer release shall we...

- I'll play it with 6800...NVIDIA cards are more stabile...ati sux crashes with alot of games and weak with openGL games
-
#29.1 Posted by donachello on 06 May 2004 - 10:13
- At the end of the day we could all bitch about whose the best better worse or great...
Just take a moment and think to yourself... It's down to personal preference and judgment which one to use and which card you feel comfortable with for your gaming enjoyment...
Yeah...
-
#29.2 Posted by theyarecomingforyou on 06 May 2004 - 20:57
- Yes, ATi outsells nVidia because it is crap and crashes a lot... ATi also runs over old ladies and hides in bushes waiting to spit on you. One of their selling points is that it crashes more frequently than any other card.
Both manufacturers have great cards... saying "ati sux" is a ridiculous statement seeing that they have long had the more powerful cards (9700 - 9800)and better image quality. The latest top spec cards don't have much between them - either could be called the best without being "wrong". I personally prefer ATi because they have better image quality, and nVidia seem a little keen on cutting corners to getting better speed - saying that I would have either card, depending purely on price (but things being equal leaning toward ATi).

-
#31 Posted by tommie on 06 May 2004 - 18:55
- Yea excellent vid, I love anything new even if it's the same scenes.
I'm pretty sure Gabe meant it when he said this Summer, because they've already stated that they have completed the full source and completed a complete rewrite of the multiplayer code and now all they have to do is add content to the game like health packs and stuff.
