Bell Canada and Microsoft unveiled a joint Web portal today, combining features of the two Internet sites the companies have been operating separately under a new name: Sympatico.MSN.ca.

Microsoft's http://www.msn.ca and Bell's http://www.sympatico.ca have been among the country's top web portals, providing information content and access to online services such as e-mail.

The new site is the result of a partnership announced last year by the U.S.-based software giant and the Montreal-based phone company, which are also collaborating on television programming over the Internet.

The announcement coincided with the introduction of a custom-built version of the MSN Premium software featuring tools to block pop-up ads, filter unwanted e-mail and parental controls.

The software is available to subscribers of Bell's Sympatico Internet services at various prices, depending on whether they have dial-up service over regular phone lines or high-speed service over digital subscriber lines.

Hello All,

We are currently looking to recruit trialists, for a trial of a new Internet Browser Toolbar. The trial is scheduled to begin around the end of June and will run until everyone has completed their script.

There are however a couple of requirements you need to be aware of:

*We only require trialists who have Windows 2000 or XP (if you have
anything different please advise)

*We are only looking for 100 trialists mixed across all tiers, so
recruitment will be done on first come basis.

I hope you would like to participate in the trial, and if so, please reply to this mail to advise.

thanks
NTL

That would explain why I ran into that Bell guy at Microsoft Canada.

Bell is doing a lot of things with MS. For example, IPTV (video over IP).

The portal is okay though...a bit overhyped in my opinion. I was just at a BBQ shindig at Yonge-Dundas Square today, they had guys on kangaroo stilts and trapeze artists and trampoline acrobats...

Well that explains alot. Funny they didn't talk about it on the page...

I guess when Rogers started the 5mb connection, Bell has to respond.

Bell is a piece of crap.

And why is that? 3meg down, 800k up, no caps, constant speed, no service interuptions... and that is with the regular high speed package, not Ultra. You can't beat Bell DSL (at least in Toronto).
#10.2 supersaiyanjericho on 11 Jun 2004 - 16:58
anyone heard of the new EXTREME High Speed Internet service from Rogers?
#10.3 defcon7 on 11 Jun 2004 - 18:15
Oh let me tell you something bout Sympatico: they're a bunch of phuckin liars. They lied to me to get me to sign up for DSL, and then told me 8 months later I was outside their range. No service interruptions? Hah! Even friends of mine within the 2 km range get randomly dropped from the net. And don't even talk about speed...
#10.4 jugaaru on 12 Jun 2004 - 00:56
High Speed users are supposed to get 3mb connections(I am getting 1.3mb), I called them for to ask about this, The rep says its better to have stable connection than frequent disconnections (I wonder who he was refrerring to )

basically, he's telling you to be thankful for what you have, and that's simply unacceptable, especially since 1.3 is not 3. It's blatant false advertising. If I had the guts, I'd start a class action suit against them.

I would like to see somebody try to sue a big company like Bell
picture it like Mr. Burns with all his lawyers
I hope you have a good one!
