Bink.nu is reporting that a pre beta 2 CTP build will be made available to testers on February 21st. This will be the first 'feature complete' version preceeding Beta 2 which is expected to be complete by April.

Bink also goes on to say that a Longhorn Server version is not likely to be included in this CTP.

Paul Thurrott originally reported the date being set at February 17th, whiile he might be off on the date, anywhere in that week will be fine with us.

I enjoy looking at each release, but I'm not planing on attempting to make the switch until Beta 2.

I want in, too bad im not in the BETA program.

Vista's beta will become more public after Beta 2. For now if you really want in you can buy a TechNet Plus or MSDN subscription. TechNet Plus is cheaper, but you can't download, so you have to wait for the monthly CDs to be mailed.

how much is the subscription?
#5.3 sphbecker on 26 Jan 2006 - 19:08
I just renewed for $445 for the next year, but I think it cost me a little more the first time around. I wouldn't pay for it personally, but if you do any kind of IT work professionally you have a pretty good change of getting your boss to pay for it :-)

This will be.. interesting!

I'm still hugely sceptical of Vista for a number of reasons but I wanna at least try a beta out to see what I think.

That is a good additude. Simply being a naysayer or a drone is of no value to anyone. Bravo!

(hey, everyone needs some positive reinforcment)

pre-beta 2 in Feb, wow, I thought beta 2 was in feb, but its april now.. crazy!
At this rate Vista should be out in Oct i'm assuming

Who knows, they might try and release it the same date as they released Windows XP, which was October 25th in Australia.
#8.2 sphbecker on 25 Jan 2006 - 15:01
A release around October has been the humor for months now. They have been saying late summer of 06' for what seems like forever; everyone kind of just assumed that would mean a month or two later (its Microsoft we are talking about)

paul thurrot says august...
#9.1 jasondefaoite on 25 Jan 2006 - 11:56
No, he says RTM in August, which is pretty much when XP reached RTM. However it won't be available in the shops to purchase till Oct. Of course you can bet the Devil's own Vista release will be somewhere between August and Sept

I just hope this makes the March DVD batch for TechNet Plus members. Late month builds have not always made the cut in the past.
#12.1 Octol on 25 Jan 2006 - 15:17
Agreed. It would really suck to have to wait until April for a build that's released in February.

[Edit]

Just got my Technet February email, which indicates that Build 5270 *will* be sent out to subscribers.

5270 was the December release, lol. Just goes to show how slow TechNet is; I normally get my monthly set about the 10th, so I will not get the December build until Feb 10th, lol.

Its a good thing I'm not too crazy about these early builds of the delay would drive me crazy. I'm waiting for Beta 2.

i'm a little confused about the whole "more public" thing..in other words the common person after beta 2 could get a beta copy of vista????

never happened before xp...

also will this have full efi support? I only ask because I saw (actually on neowin) about how someone had talked to Microsoft devs and they said that there was a bug and no efi was implemented???

I wonder if my SATA drivers will work with this version? They worked for the first 2 versions, but haven't worked with any other CTP since then. I hope they work!
