Fine, then don't bother, because the info clearly states its an Enterprise version, which even on the official Microsoft.com website, it says it doesn't need to be activated as it's a volume license.

I have a couple VLKs from 2 Select 6 agreements, they don't need activation at all, there's nothing to explain :p
#3.9 Jugalator on 13 Nov 2006 - 09:56
Unless they changed their Office Enterprise editions, they won't even contact the activation servers.

As opposed to Windows, which still do that to confirm the VLK's aren't pirated.

It *is* possible something changed though, but Office was "special" in this sense before.

Edit: Microsoft seem to back up that Office 2007 hasn't changed and the Enterprise edition won't need activation:
Quote -
Volume Activation 1.0 (VA 1.0)

Volume Activation 1.0 is the first generation of Volume License Keys (VLKs). These keys bypass product activation. The 2007 Microsoft Office system will continue to use product keys that bypass product activation.

Neither does mine. Anybody know how long something like Vista, for example, would show up on MSDNAA?
#9.3 mikey on 13 Nov 2006 - 02:08
Mine doesn't either! Just get OneNote i think.

The beta's for Visual Studio were on MSDNAA fairly soon after they were available on MSDN, so Vista should be fairly quick (or i hope so, because i really want to give it a go as my primary OS)

Alright, thanks.

Actually, on my MSDNAA, all the more expensive Office products are there (the standalones) like InfoPath, Project, maybe FrontPage, etc, but not the actual primary CD itself.

#15.3 Jugalator on 13 Nov 2006 - 09:58
The MSDN servers are usually very fast, just not on big release days. Last time we got something from there, it was clearly above 1 Mbps. IMHO, MS should consider some form of torrent support to solve this problem.
#16 levijay on 12 Nov 2006 - 23:51
If upgrading, make sure you remove (if installed) the PDF and XPS Save As beta addon and other beta products relating to Office 2007 System (mine complained about Web Expression Designer CTP being installed), otherwise you won't be able to upgrade. Setup will complain about a pre-release version of Office 2007 System installed.

#18.1 Mith on 13 Nov 2006 - 00:02
Just back up your Application DataMicrosoftOutlook*.* directory before rebuilding and then paste over the top after the install - this should keep your autocomplete (%Username%.NK2) and other settings (*.OST) blah blah
#18.2 SamuriHL on 13 Nov 2006 - 00:05
Ok, I'll give it a shot. My PST files and all that live in an entirely different folder. For backup purposes I moved them to my Documents folder(Running Vista RC2). I suppose I should run my backup process before trying the upgrade anyway. Thanks!
#18.3 Litespeed on 13 Nov 2006 - 00:27
Office 2003 had a tool in it's Start menu folders which would let you import/export your office settings (like the locations of your mail files, window settings and views etc). So you could export your settings, remove and reinstall office (say, after a reinstall of Windows) and then import all your office settings.

Can't remember if Office 2007 has this now.
#18.4 SamuriHL on 13 Nov 2006 - 00:49
No, they removed it. I think I read somewhere that they were planning on having people use the Vista settings tool. Like THAT'S a good idea or something. LOL!
#18.5 Jugalator on 13 Nov 2006 - 10:01
Hmm, but how are people going to transfer from Office 2003 on XP in that case?
#19 Arkos Reed on 13 Nov 2006 - 00:12
it's on the volume licensing site as well, however it seems that depending on your geographical location MS has not authorized the download of any language version of the Office 2007 suite
#20 PR. on 13 Nov 2006 - 00:55
Strange, it's listed on our companies licensing site for download however we've not been issued keys for it yet, we have however been issued keys for Vista...

I know it's not an official Microsoft page, but this should help.

On a separate note, I'm quite impressed with Office 2007. It will require many people to re-learn how to do things, but in the end I think people will find it so much cleaner and easier to use.
#23.2 devHead on 13 Nov 2006 - 08:00
Oddly, according to the chart, Outlook is not part of Office Professional or Ultimate! It must be a mistake, though.

Oh, wait. My bad, there's another line for Outlook with the Business Contact Manager.

I've already got my first WTF issue with 2007.

Outlook could not create the work file. Check the temp environment available

It happens when I open up Outlook and check on any e-mail incoming message plus when I start up Word same think Word could not, etc. No problem with Publisher. Oh yeah and I can't seem to insert pictures in Word as well. Insert, find my pictures, select one, get the error can't find the picture to open.

So damn confused!

#30.1 Magallanes on 13 Nov 2006 - 19:05
MSDN software is not a "free retail software" rather to ms give the software but limited for development use. This means that if you use visual studio for create and sell a products then it's quite illegal rather to download it from piratebay.

For this reason MSDN is focused for a business that can paid it and for mvp free laborers of ms that have it for free.

I can't believe the would not attempt to fix this before the final release.
#33 Jugalator on 13 Nov 2006 - 09:51
Grr, I only see a Retail version for our subscription yet.

The again, we aren't English partners so it's possible the VLK version along with the localized one will appear when these are ready. That is, they'll give us our localized Retail + VLK edition when these are done, and never the English VL version. Which isn't a problem for me really as we use the localized ones here anyway. It'd just be nice to check out early.

Is the install packadge 32bit and 64bit, or does it install 64bit version when you download the rest of the installation for Microsoft servers. 400MB seem to small for complete office 2007

Winbeta on IRC has a distro of Vista that is an AIO (all in one) version. It has both 32 bit and 64 bit versions on 1 dvd. It is set up to boot from dvd and you pick what you want. This is intended to be used as a 30 day trial and does not have a valid key for activation. There already are ways around that issue though. As for Office, yes there is a release on the torrent sites of the Enterprise version that does not require activation.

I called yesterday "bandwidth sunday" ....lol, because it was crazy on the irc network and torrent sites.

I am running Vista rtm 32 bit now and will format and try the 64 bit rtm out in a little while.

So far Vista is looking great. I just wish MS would offer the option to purchase a valid key now instead of waiting for Jan 30. I don't understand why they are making retail wait.

Downloaded and working great...it did ask me to activate however. Excel keeps showing an error message after I've closed it out, but other than that all the apps are working fine.

In Word 2007:

Orb (top left corner) --> Save As --> It should say something like "get add-ins" or something like that. There will be a link in the Help file that loads up that takes you to the Microsoft page to download the PDF/XPS add-in.
#37 naap51stang on 13 Nov 2006 - 14:32
I started watching the torrent sites when they RTM'd both vista and office......what a mess.....fake files everywhere.
Then sunday afternoon I notied the ratio of seeds to leaches starting to even out a little more.
I still say that if MS knocked down the price a bit, they wouldn't have near the problem with piracy.

I notice that every time I hop from 1 open word document to another (in compatibility mode, .doc format), Word always freezes for a while (less than a second, with hour glass icon coming out).. It is noticeable.. Is this just me, or perhaps this is due to the compatibility mode that it is using

You know what I find to be quite cute?

You can't install Office 2007 Final if you already have Expression Web Designer installed. You have to first uninstall Expression Web Design, but the really cute thing is that Expression Web Designer won't uninstall correctly. Soooo I have to re-download and reinstall Expression Web Designer just so that I can uninstall it. I thought that was cute.

Oh, and on my home PC, I had to reinstall MS Office Beta 2 before it would let me uninstall it, again what a pain in the ass.

Other than that, Office 2007 Final has been great.

use it to clean all the MUI office (beta) installers, there'll be on for access, excel, word etc and a few more.

God help me for asking this question, but I've seen so many different rumors out about the new activation policies Microsoft has thrown at us.

Using our company's MSDN subscription, I downloaded a copy of Visio 2007 (Office is incoming). I installed using the key provided in our MSDN listing (which apparently is also the key for Project?). After installation, I was prompted to activate. Here's where I get nervous...

Can this be installed and activated on multiple computers? If so, is there a limit to the number of computers that can be activated?

I'm at a new company and I've never been given access to an MSDN subscription before. My old place just used unlicensed software (or pirated software on really good days). I don't want to be the numbnut that biffs the subscription somehow, and I'm not really smart enough to read Microsoft's licensing language. Believe me, I tried.

So...help, please?

Thanks in advance.

usually caused by some trailing installer registry errors.

try the windows installer cleanup util and check for any programs you thought you'd removed, especially anything office related.

otherwise uninstall any previous office, and clean up after it using the post I made earlier as a guide, then try.
