Amazon.com announced that in early 2007 it plans to offer digital downloads of DVDs via its current service dubbed Unbox. Amazon's CustomFlix subsidiary produces licensed DVDs only when a customer orders one, rather than forcing its suppliers to risk producing thousands of copies that go unsold. CustomFlix announced that media companies will not be charged to offer their content in digital form and consumers will probably pay less for digital downloads than for DVDs. Although exact numbers aren’t known, demand from media companies has been high. Amazon believes that thousands of movies will be added to Unbox’s catalog.

i prefer XviD video format over everything else anyways... cause it generally offers good quality at a small file size... in other words even though dvd's video quality is better, the XviD video fromat is probably overall better in terms of downloading from internet wise/video quality combination ... sorta like the MP3 for video
cause i can fit anywhere from 3-6movies per dvd disc with the XviD video format instead of just 1 with standard dvd format.... main sacrifice is XviD video files wont play on a high percentage of home dvd players... but i have a moded xbox with XBMC (XBox Media Center) which plays basically any video format a pc can play, so im good.
so long as the serviers would let me download at full speed that is, and not be bogged down all the time.
