Nvidia Corp., a leading chipset developer, and EVGA, a supplier of graphics cards and mainboards, have released more BIOS versions that should correct the already well-known issues with Serial ATA storage devices and mainboards powered by Nvidia’s latest core-logic. Some EVGA customers using the EVGA nForce 680i SLI motherboard have reported experiencing disconnect or write error issues with Serial ATA disk drives. To address this, we have worked with Nvidia to release a BIOS update for this motherboard that eliminates this bug,” said Joe Darwin, a spokesman of EVGA.

The new BIOS version P23 beta 2 that was available through EVGA forums and the final BIOS version P23 are supposed to correct the Serial ATA problems that users were experiencing with mainboards featuring Nvidia’s latest nForce 680i core-logic set. The previous release – BIOS version P23 beta 1 – did not correct issues with Serial ATA storage devices for all end users.

I feel sorry for the people who paid lots of money for top of the line pc and get pwnt by glitches like that... SATA corruption is a very very bad bug to have

can't we please put "words" like pwnt to rest?

I agree, it's ridiculous.

Did Microsoft recently buy Nvidia or something?

Not clever and not funny.

or if you were serious - the answer is no.

I have installed these latest "final" BIOS. So far no lockups or event log disk errors.
#3.1 +WinMacLin on 25 Dec 2006 - 12:05
Just thought I would reply, I've been running these bios for a 3 or so days now and I've not had a single problem. Before these BIOS I had heavy data corruption BSODS and other disk related errors.

I'm confident that NVIDIA has fixed the problem.

I'm running a RAID 0 array aswell as several other IDE and SATA disks.

Good job for bios updates, or they would be in serious trouble. I hope they also start shipping these boards with the newest bios version, because I wouldn't like to spend £££ on a new mobo then destroy it while bios updating.

Well looks like I'm not buying Nvidia powered board next time i'll upgrade. They have these same problems with nforce 4 also and I don't think it was ever fixed.
#5.1 mrmckeb on 25 Dec 2006 - 07:08
Yeah, and I was really going to pay the enormous asking price of this board... maybe I'll just buy the stock Intel one........... or not.

Would my problem of my computer sometimes taking 4-5 minutes to boot (it'll hang at the XP logo) be similar to this issue? It usually only happens after I install a big program.

I have a Gigabyte SLI-capable mobo with a Seagate SATA drive.

This happens with nForce 4 and some Sata drives. Do not install nvidia IDE drivers from nForce driver package or after installing disable (I can't remember if it was Command Queuing or NCQ) in device manager (right click sata controller).

I've ordered evga board few days ago, and I was aware of SATA RAID glitch. Not planning to use RAID
Good thing they are patching it tho

the poor initial quality of the high end hardware was disappointing from such a great company who in particular should've learned from past mistakes instead of repeating them.

however it is promising that they have been working hard to correct the mistake.

post release support is never a bad thing.

I am glad they worked hard to resolve it and that is the bottom line. I still believe highly in Nvidia and their product. I remember there was even an issue with the Nforce2 chip and I never suffered with these issues. THing is we all use our machines a bit different from one another. I for one have not adventured into RAID but plan to at some point at my next upgrade.

Cool info thanks

I wish VIA would release a BIOS update for my POS ECS MB. I can't complain about the price, though.. 160 bucks for the Core2 E6300 and MB, and that was two months ago. My WD HDDs are making noise and the system locks up once in a while (it's running RAID 0). Didn't happen before with my MSI board with the same HDDs. I guess I gotta save up enough cash to go to DDR2 and PCI-E. OH well.

If only they had shown the same initiative for the ULi m5288 controller... but that would've helped the competition

My EVGA 680i has been running raid0 with 2 sata2 drives for weeks now...

Too bad you didn't say whether you had issues or not

Zero issues. Even tried raid 1 for a day or two and it worked as well. I don't think this affects everyone, just a handful of people.

If by a handful you mean the hands of the guy who designed the first XBos controller, then yes.
