It would appear that the United States will be receiving Apple Incorporated's highly anticipated iPhone on June 29. The device will retail for $499 (4GB) and $599 (8GB) and will be offered exclusively in the U.S. by AT&T Incorporated's wireless division, formerly known as Cingular. In January, Apple CEO Steve Jobs revealed the cellphone and media player gadget as having wireless Internet and sporting a touch-sensitive screen. He said it would appear in stores in June but gave no specific date. Apple spokesman Tom Neumayr confirmed the June 29 sale date that advertisements have been showing since Sunday.

And yet again, us UK'ers get left behind

Bleegh. Like I said in the forums, it only figures that they'd make us wait until nearly the end of June. Probably the only reason they're still releasing it in June is because they promissed.

So they kept their promise, yet you still manage to find something to complain?

Too bad it's only for AT&T customers.

Yeah, if they release unlocked version I would buy it even if it's $700-$800. I want to be able to use T-Mobile or any other service. I don't want to be forced to use AT&T.

What kind of a stupid question is that? Why am I against being forced to use only one crappy service? Because I want to use the phone everywhere and with anything.

No I meant why would you ever pay that much money for an over-rated shiny phone, there are plenty of alternatives out there which are much better.
#4.6 black_death on 05 Jun 2007 - 04:23
you know you could unlock it yourself for free instead of waiting for someone else to do it for $100

It must be the cool thing to dislike the iPhone. That's the only reason I can see as these two posts are just absurd.

man who wouldn't want to spend $500 on a phone that plays music and has a web browser, those are pretty much non existant nowadays.

seriosuly though, for $500-$600 Id rather get a PDA, it can do way more and costs less.
#5.1 Pierreken on 04 Jun 2007 - 20:36
Exactly, a PDA allows you to install new applications (and there's a lot of them).
The iPhone is overpriced for its functionality. It does however look extremely nice (at least it did in the demo's I've seen) and that will be the main reason why people will buy it.
#5.2 GatorV on 04 Jun 2007 - 20:51
Apple = Looks not functionality.

However in this world, a lot of people go for looks rather than functionality.
#5.3 black_death on 05 Jun 2007 - 00:47
You guys are totally right, unfourtunatley. What a world....

Answer: Nokia N95

What? Fancy graphics for the iphone? That's all?

And where is the:
HSPDA?
The GPS?
The symbian with lots of programs and open source?
The camera?
5 Megapixel camera?

etc

Only main advantage for the iphone is the tactile screen, nice for handle the OS but very poor to "feel" the keys of a real keypad.

Theres a lot of people saying that there is a lot of phones that has more function than the iphone, but I don't really think this is the issue. The iphone, IMHO, is a device of simplicity and ease of use. For example, like the nokia N95, I know that its really powerful, but would you really use all the functions it has? Just ask your self that. Whats the most used feature in a phone for general users, sms, photo, listen to music, make calls. All I can say is, the iphone will surely rock the phone industry with a different objective, ease of use.

a $500 "ease of use"
#6.2 black_death on 05 Jun 2007 - 04:21
so its better to pay more for something thats easier to use and less useful than to pay less for something more useful but slightly more complicated to use (we're talking about cellphones here, not nuclear reactors)?

I'm well aware of what you are referring to. As to what I was referring, people will be willing to pay that kind of price for that. This applies with ipod too, why would ipod be so successful comparing to other mp3 device? simple answer, simplicity.
