Shift Linux is a project that was created by the Neowin community. Shift is Debian based, therefore it has access to all of the software and applications as other Debian distributions. Neowin's Shift Linux is designed to give the user an experience of being part of the Neowin community as well as having a simple, easy-to-use Live CD that can be installed to your hard drive, if you enjoy the way our distribution works. Shift is a free, GPL-based Linux distribution that can be freely distributed or modified. There are no restrictions with Shift.
Shift Linux 0.5 (RC-2) includes three fully branded versions: KDE, Gnome, and Flux, all Live CDs. Included in this version are most of the most popular packages to include wireless support and a desktop installer. In addition, we have newly created packages such as:
Download: Shift Linux 0.5 (RC2) Gnome
Download: Shift Linux 0.5 (RC2) KDE
Download: Shift Linux 0.5 (RC2) Flux

Thanks man! If you include it, I will replace my current vm with Shift.
But I'm gonna stick with debian as I don't have to reinstall everytime theres a new dot release.
Oh btw Leo you seem more sensible on this board than the other one
Well, what can I say, I've opened toward Linux in the last couple of weeks.
Peace,

This is not the 5th time we've had an announcement on the front page. I suggest that if you do not like the post, do not read it.

It's great Neowin has its own Linux distro and they can post about as much as they want. Don't want to read it, then don't. Just move your eyes higher or lower.
As this was made by Neowin, then it is up to the Neowin staff to post about it as much as they like. It also helps them to grow larger as a community, because people who use the OS will then pass on news to others who will then use it> Then these people will stop and think, "Hey, this Neowin site ROXORZ!", and subsiquantly come and join the community here.
As two other people have said... if you dont like the post, then ignore it... simple realy.
Well you can set your page to go to software news instead of the main news.
You can set your homepage to www.google.com instead of Neowin.
You can frequent other news sites such as Bink.nu if it bothers you that much... that is until they start posting things you feel you no longer wish to read.
Whilst the rest of the Neowin community will happily sit here, reading news on Shift Linux and waiting anxiously for the next release or update.
Honestly, its like going to the MS website every day and then one day telling them you would rather not hear about the latest patches for MS Windows and would much rather hear only about Office.
You obviously have something against Neowin, as you have gone out of your way to highlight the win, much the same as people use the $ sign in MS(M$
Peace,
RA
Honestly, I'm glad it was posted more than once. Today was the first time that I have ever seen it advertised. I don't get here often, but when I do, it's good stuff.
But by your thoughts.. How would Microsoft advritise office for mac? it doesnt run on windows, and thats what microsoft is all about.
this is a linux distro made by ALOT of windows users learning linux. so this will have alot of the requirements windows users want because of this.. making it in its own way unique.
to have its own website would seperate that project from the community. (the way autopatcher was a bit more seperate)
Don't worry, I dont want to gang up on you. I think your best bet is using firefox as suggested, and extension for adblocking.. it works perfectly, its how i remove all ads and unwanted content.
and heres a question. Would it bother you as much if this was posted MORE times but not stickied? :p would that be better or worse in your mind (curious earnestly)
Edit: 2 more shots added! If anyone wants to see anything in particular, just ask.

It is all in your preference.

And I sure as heck don't want to be forced to use the "one Linux" as The Only Linux. Which UIs do we get rid of? Kill Gnome? Stop KDE development?
The "One Linux" strategy may seem like a good idea to some (on the surface, anyhow), but an artificial determination of what is "best" is really subjective and impractical to implement.
So Linux can just be another version of Windows with it's one size fits all ideas...
I'm not trying to criticise, but most people don't care if Linux competes with Windows. Hating Windows/MS is not a good reason to use Linux imo. Liking Linux (and it's open source culture) is a reason to use Linux.
besides.. we DONT have 1 distro of windows
we dont even have 1 distro of xp.. or 1 of vista :p
there are different version of the same os, then different os's also sold :p
xp home doesnt work ENTIRELY like pro and is different again then say 2003 server etc etc...
Same thing here. Just waiting for that final release to try that Fluxbox on this old a** raggedy box!
Moved my question to here:
Oops! Screwed that up. Now I can't find where I moved my post to and I had subscribed to that thread. That's not showing up in my control panel either. Just subscribed to it a few minutes ago. Part of why my vote on the front page was neowin still needs work!!
FWIW,
I have now tried Shift on 3 different machines. WILL NOT even get to the desktop on any of them!! All 3 have different setups using internal video, ati video, and nvidia video. All 3 are different processors too. One Inel Celeron. One Intel P4, and one AMD Athlon 3000!! Don't know why I have to be so stubborn and not just give up forever with this goofy OS (Linux in general, that is). Just hate having things kick my butt!!

I've unsuccessfully tried to use Suse and Ubuntu on my laptop, but without graphics drivers it's unusable..and with the graphics drivers supplied by Via Chrome I don't have a GUI at all!
